No. People saying things like that don't know what they're talking about.
There was news post about Bulgaria donating a hundred BTR-60s to Ukraine and the internal comments are pretty grim: a loud fuel-hungry two-engine synchronized _gasoline_ (good luck with fuel) shitbox, which can barely drive, can barely survive AK fire, etc, etc, etc. But the biggest issue is how soviet engineers though people would get in and out of it, small hatches placed high up, i.e. you can't use it to move wounded soldiers, you can't easily abandon the vehicle if it gets hit, etc.
Basically one of the prime examples of "why do they drive on top of the armor, instead of inside it?" - because it's more of a death-trap than anything else. Historically, more people died in them because they couldn't get out from them after getting hit and just burned alive.
M113s are god-tier wounder weapons compared to that BTR-60s. Shit, an old Mitsubishi L-200 pick up truck is better, at least it's small, agile, etc.
They're using an outdated APC with armor that can be pierced by 7.62mm rounds (only from the sides but large arty fragments can still frick it up) in a role that should be filled by a BMP or BTR. This is as bad as the defense of Damascus in the Yom Kippur War, where the Syrians were so desperate they were sending people out in Panzer 4s to fight Magachs and Centurions. Although the Israelis were also using M-51 Super Shermans, so those two geriatrics got to duke it out one last time
This thing dates back to the early 1950s and the original models had open tops and lacked any NBC protection.
It is something that started to show its age in the 1960/70s and was completely replaced by BMPs, BTRs, and MTLBs. The fact Russia still had some of these things in storage is amazing as they should have been sold off or scrapped decades ago.
The fact it’s on the battlefield means that some areas in the Russian storage and logistical system is having trouble refurbishing and reactivating BMPs, BTRs, and MTLBs.

Ok im gonna say it, i love this little mad max mutant
It may speak volumes about the deficiencies of the russian army, but i think its cool, that being said i think Uki mad max vehicles are usually more effective or atleast rational, like that MT-LB woth an AT-12 on top, simple artillery piece
Ive even proposed the Ukis should take all those BMD-2s they captured, take out the turrets, put em on BMP-1s, and then i dunno use the turretless BMDs like artillery tractors, logistical vehicles or some shit
> then i dunno use the turretless BMDs like artillery tractors, logistical vehicles or some shit
There are better alternatives than using BMDs for that. Those things are meant to be deployed from aircraft.
>There are better alternatives than using BMDs for that. Those things are meant to be deployed from aircraft.
Yeah but thats a stupid fricking idea, if theres no use for em, then i dunno, send them to the scrapyard
what i say is that the BMD-2 turret is salvageable because its a 30mm autocannon + ATGM combo, and the turret ring has the same diameter as the one in the BMP-1 which is armed with the subpar 73mm low pressure cannon, and the ATGM on that i dont think its being used anymore
So you improve some BMP-1s and get rid of the BMD-2 deathtraps you got from the russians
Only to look at. They were called "Purple Heart Boxes" in WWII. They're a desperation measure converting a contemporary truck to tracked rear drive because contemporary tires a shit.
Oh you are definitely correct. It would be next to useless today but yes I do think they are cool to look at. Same with the BMP 1s and 2s. The 1s especially are pieces of shit that are uncomfortable death traps but I don’t mind Russia using them because they look cool. And yes I know this isn’t rational.
My brother in Christ, did you somehow miss all the kino two weeks back when an up-to-date T-90M fought against an M2A2 and took second place? This Frankensteinian shitheap has a slim chance of scoring a mobility kill if and only if the vehicle and its crew manage to clog enough of the Abrams’ treads with their wreckage.
Ak 47 rounds tend to just go right threw it. It doesn't make any sense to waste the fuel and effort. It offers no protection, it's slow, breaks down, easy to spot and it usually explodes when shot.
The "armor" is most cosmetic. Humvees are safer and offer more protection. It just doesn't make sense. You could use a normal car from the 1980s and weld steel plates on and be safer. They have to under stand this thing explodes or catches on fire alone. Ak 47 rounds through the back, side parts of the front set the fires up. I l just am confused now

Russia makes way more sense if you imagine they live in a timeline where WW3 did happened in the late 80s. Mad Max technology, warlords, depression, drug use, weirdo cults everywhere...
The disbanding never actually happened, they're just put under a RU Army corp and thats it. And no, only the main force units that were still alive in 2022 were considered better than conscripts due to experience from the war that started in 2014. Those are long dead and didn't last 2022.
I love mish-mashes. Hopefully some survive to end up in a museum, or at least are documented from more than one angle.
they really scraping the bottom of the barrel, holy frick
What’s the problem?
This! A APC is a APC.

We've reached the point where a Toyota technical is a better option than whatever Muscovy is digging out of storage.
moron

That’s the alternative
Imagine if the US Army was sending it's troops to take Puebla, Mexico, and those troops were riding ontop of a Korea war era halftrack.
Not the same because halftracks are fricking awesome

Shut up moron. Just like Sherman tanks were Ronsons right?
Stalin's body wasn’t even cold when that thing entered service.
So you are stating that a 70-years-old APC is able to fight against NATO's newest Bradley's? That sounds like pretty good endorsementage.
I could also fight prime Mike Tyson with my hands handcuffed behind my back
ITT: Mad Maksim beyond Blyatdome.

this level of frickery requires a grasp of the english language that russian shills just don't have
0/10
weak b8
Anon, we are making fun of it because it's Bradley fodder and a deathtrap.

They're worth more as scrapped aluminum.
They can scrap whats left after they take out the turrets, like i said, those can fit BMP-1s, Ukraine uses tons of those
Why can’t they sell these to us instead? I promise I’ll give it a better home than the Russians did.
Russia makes way more sense if you imagine they live in a timeline where WW3 did happened in the late 80s. Mad Max technology, warlords, depression, drug use, weirdo cults everywhere...
This reminds me of Atom RPG which is exactly what you describe.
So this was used by the "separatist" units right? Those are still on the bottom of the barrel even though they're now mostly Russians.
I don't think there are even separatists any more
Paraguayan War level casualties but worse
Sparatists were disbanded and integrated into main army 1 year ago. Amd russians considered them to be better units than conscripts
The disbanding never actually happened, they're just put under a RU Army corp and thats it. And no, only the main force units that were still alive in 2022 were considered better than conscripts due to experience from the war that started in 2014. Those are long dead and didn't last 2022.
Nothin' new.
It's still funny, though.
Let's be realistic, they don't care about new troops are getting if they can keep pressure against ukies. Just more cheaper meat for the grinder.
