Need to raise my floor, help please

I'm going to renovate the kitchen soon, full DIY except the furniture. I will rip this parquet out and tile the whole floor. Problem is the parquet is 2cm (~0.8in) tall and the tile + thinset is only 1cm, so I need another 1cm for the floor to be flush with the other rooms. What is a better option? Manually floating with deck mud or pouring self-leveling cement? Do I need reinforcement wire for either?

Have you considered just having the finish floor wind up 1cm lower than the other rooms and having a transition? 1cm isn't a very big drop

You could use a cement backer board or self leveling cement--- you won't need any reinforcing wire with either of these. The backer board would probably be more expensive, but it will also likely be easier to get a more perfect surface.

      >cement backer board
Sorry forgot to add, the subfloor is concrete or some slab system since it's a Yugo building built in the 50s, so idk if that is easy to do.
If the self leveling cement is only 1cm thick, won't it crack?

Concrete leveling compound can be applied at very thin layers, even just a few mm thick.
Check into what porducts are available locally.
(keep in mind that a lot of them call for the use of a compatible primer when used over a concrete slab)

Ma šta te boli kurac za to. My 1976 duplex shithole has literally 10x bigger differences between some rooms and the attic has unremovable tiles from 2013 because the previous owner dumbass CEMENTED them onto the concrete slab.

        >Yugo building built in the 50s
If it's 50s it might not even be Yugoslav. Does it have no district heating, a crawl space between the floors and sound insulation so good you could scream at 3 AM and not wake anyone up? Then it's a German war reparation building. Parquet might have been done later then.

Keep in mind that yugos couldn't do parquet for shit, it makes sense to rip it out and replace it with something that's done properly.

The wood is very old and has absorbed years of water and grease from spillages. Just take a look at this particle board in my cabinet. I bet I could fry an egg on the gutter oil I could squeeze out of it. This is tempting me to just rip everything out so it is fresh and sanitary. And don't worry the tiles will be 24x24

Use cork. It's natural and perfect Insulation

Seems like a very good idea, but won't the cork compress over time and make the floor not level?

        Anonymous

Cork flooring is compressed already to make it more dense and resilient...it's not usually as dense as linoleum but if you indent it with a thumbnail it pops back to normal.

Idk if the stains, scratches and lippage are even possible to fix anymore. I recall my mom saying the workers said it can't be sanded anymore, or maybe just one more time...

        Anonymous

        > can’t be sanded
Sounds like BS, thats thick wood.
Don’t sand out the gouges where you were, what? Repairing diesel engines? Just carve out the black parts and fill with clear epoxy (or colour it if you want)

        Anonymous

sand enough to change the color of the wood
no, you won't be able to go deep enough for gouges, but who cares; wood filler in them if you care
dark stain will make them invisible
and then polyurethane the shit out of it
enough poly might also self-level your little slope problem?
either way, will last you another generation

Don't listen to these hyperventilating virtue signaling pearl clutchers, wood is a pain in the ass in a kitchen and of all the patterns that can make it a bigger pain in the ass, parquet and herringbone are at the top.

All it takes is one burst pipe of faucet cartridge retainer thread giving out or a leaky icemaker supply line to completely wreck a floor like that in a matter or a few hours when you're out of the house.

No shock that these neets white knighting for a fricking floor can't comprehend being out of the house and coming back to a disaster.

Also no surprise that they can't comprehend that a wooden kitchen floor has *always* been poorgay cope. As are wooden floors made from short bits of wood, unless it's 2" or thicker end grain.

      Anonymous

tfw you think that wood floors are high-end because you grew up with houses made from literal garbage like lineoleum, particle board, and plastic carpets

      Anonymous

It's called having taste, which is something grey and white flipper shitters like you would never understand. If you seal the floor properly with polyurethane it's effectively water-proof.

If you had good quality appliances and quality plumbing, which you would get if you weren't a landlord, this is literally not a problem.
