Hey guys, I need some advice on hunting down a possible water leak in my house. I can hear water running at all times through the main cold water inlet for the house. The water noise stops when I shut off the valve. However I cannot for the life of me find any signs of water anywhere in or around my house. Not even any dampness. All the faucets are closed and do not leak, the toilets do not run, and none of my appliances that use water are running. I don't have a water softener either. It just randomly started yesterday.
Any help would be appreciated
Could just be the icemaker in the freezer.
Just wait and the leak will find you.
Get a buddy with a thermal camera and look for spots that are suspiciously cold. Idk, just spitballing.
>and none of my appliances that use water are running
>implying it has to be running for it to piss water under your cabinets
do you have hard water?
turn off the inlet valve at your water heater and see if your hear the PRV still.
Turn off the feed lines to each individual faucet and appliance one by one until one of them stops the sound. This should help you narrow down at least where you should be looking.
who's laughing now?
tip: a lot of meters have a triangle or something built into the dial that spins when there's flow
9 out of 10 times it's going to be a toilet if you can't find any water damage anywhere
Could be leaking on hose outside? It's cold and the gate valve can break during a freeze
Do you live in a crawlspace, slab, or basement house?
Without knowing anything, the first thing I would do is check out the meter and see how much water is moving.
Then check the toilets to see if one is constantly running. Look at the water heater and see if the t&p has popped.
If it's not a fixture or the water heater then it'll probably be a leak on a line.
