          >mmmghhmm yes I love inhaling welding fumes
          >how did you know I was a welder? Was it the spatter all in my hair and the burn marks on my shoes?

Uncomfortable, shit pay unless you abuse your body further doing specialist work like underwater welding, low prospects unless you want to try to cram your business into a already saturated market, slightest change of travel speed or arc angle ensures porosity with flux cored wire, gas cuts partway or runs out during gmaw and you have to grind everything out, constantly quenching the plate in water after every first weld, arc not striking cause of flux on the tip, one wrong smack on the floor to get the flux on the tip and flux covering the electrode wire breaks off.

A shitty excuse for a trade, there’s a reason why it’s always almost automated whenever possible or semi-automated in a manufacturing scene. Construction work and pipeline work on welding is just fricking gay garbage that breaks your body with inhaling fumes, having to kneel over/squat in awkward positions, sit in large enclosed stainless steel tanks that are preheated to scorching temperatures and not have heat fatigue while welding.

At this point carpenters have it way fricking better, they don’t have to do much as a shitty post-convict “pipeline welder” has to do.

Hell I don't weld for a living or want to weld for a living, but having a welder and knowing how to use it is an excellent skill to have for your own diy projects. I still cut, grind, and weld quite a bit just working on my own projects.

I have no idea how anyone can get by without a
              Welder
              Air compressor
              Bench grinder
              Etc…

Agreed. And the more you properly tool up, the more things you find easy to do yourself, and the more people treat you like you are some kind of all-knowing wizard.

But on the flip side, the more you tool up, the more you long for those last few elusive tools. And the wiser you get, the more you realize you don't actually know shit but can bumble your way through just about anything with some common sense.
