According to the guy who took the pictures, the vehicle
      >had a canopy
      >was black with a grayish tan patch near the top
      >was about the size of a C-130

Can't be that large, the afterburner is from a single engine and the largest afterburning turbofan in use is only around 50" diameter, which means that plane is nowhere near C-130 sized, it should be F-16 sized.

        >supersonic
Nah, look at the angle from the nose to the wing tips, this thing couldn't hit mach 1.1 without the shockwave interacting with the wingtips.

the design concept in question would rotate such that the wing tip becomes the nose of the craft for supersonic flight. the entire aircraft would rotate 90 degrees.

It's impossible to judge the size of an unknown aircraft flying above you by eye unless it's in close formation with another aircraft of known size, or it's at low altitude flying in front of terrain features to allow you to judge its distance

You can tell from the single afterburning engine, unless pratt or GE made some MASSIVE new engine, the largest American afterburning turbofan is under 46" in diameter.

really hard to tell with these pics.

unironically though...if there's any type of person that's going to be autistically knowledgable about military aircraft, I'd say a troony furry degenerate airplane spotter is going to be high up on that list.

In 2010 I was swimming at night and there was some kind of aircraft circling above me. It had 3 lights and it didn't bank when it turned but pivoted and would do so in tight circles. It was far too large to be a civilian drone and in 2010 there weren't drones anyways. It made absolutely no noise at all when even small aircraft tend to be pretty loud when flying above you. It was below the lower clouds which I could still see because of moonlight.

I have no idea how large it was. It was anywhere between 15 to 30ft wide. The lights were all equally spaced from one another in a perfect triangle. It was the only mysterious aircraft I've ever seen and was really eerie. The fact it was so low and big but made no noise at all was weird.

This was in sarasota florida about 8 miles from a military airport.

I saw something in 2011 fly over my parents house in rural Iowa at 10 something PM on a starless night in October. There was a bunch of low flying aircraft flying around in the area at night with their landing lights on afterwards trying to psyop me and anyone who witnessed hoping we would misremember what we saw. Story time.
          >go to car to go get beer up the gravel road at a gas station before it closes
          >walk to car and see what I thought were two helicopter search lights looking for meth labs or something
          >the light isn't right
          >the two lights move together and aren't a beam of light
          >they are two perfect translucent circles where the overlapping area of the circles is opaque
          >the circles get smaller and no longer overlap
          >the circles shrink and fade away just as two pure white ovals appear
          >then a third uniform white oval appears
          >it's approaching me and it's close
          >watch it pass straight over me maybe 50 feet above a tree I was next two
          >it's 3 perfect uniform white circles like someone took the paint circle tool to a black background
          >I have astigmatism
          >this light does not appear as streaks of light like all other light sources
          >it makes a noise but it is barely audible over the dry rustling of the leaves
          >it makes a wirring sound most similar to the sound I would hear in Iraq of gas turbines on a helicopter throttled down from block away but this is way closer
          >there is also an audible jet thrust/roar sound but it's bearly audible like it is actively being silenced?
          >speed is inpossibly slow like high lift fixed wing slow maybe 20-30 mph
          >no navigation lights but one white strobe on top only visible from the illumination of the mist by the strobe
          >vague glimpse of the front of the craft from the silhouette produced by the strobe illuminated mist

It could have been a helicopter made with stealth technology. I once read that research was conducted on this topic in the 1990s. Its scope included, among other things, reducing the sound emitted by the rotors. Some of the experience from these studies, combined with elements of stealth coatings developed by the air forces, resulted in those Black Hawks used in the Bin Laden Raid.

I was doing an internship in an office building in bethesda maryland last year when I saw what appeared to be marine one fly overhead and I almost didn't hear it at all. every other time helicopters flew over the building they were loud as expected. I wonder if they put that glowie blade tech on marine one.

A bit earlier but when I was a kid in the late 90s or early 2000s my mom and I were walking through our property at night when a similar thing happened. I would also describe the craft as silent and I only saw it from the bottom but it was basically completely curricular from that angle. I didn't see any seems or rivets in it but it was metallic and also had three small rectangular or ovoid lights at the apexes of what would be an equilateral triangle. one light blue, one yellow or green and one red. It hovered just above the canopy of the oak trees which we were standing under. I would place it at roughly 20ft in diameter and 50ft above ground. it didn't move in any perceptible way for about a minute. again it was virtually silent. eventually it accelerated parallel to the ground and we lost sight shortly after because of canopy cover. I have thought about it so many times. we were too close to have misunderstood what we were seeing. We aren't near any military bases, were in a rural area near a major city, and the setting just generally didn't make sense for military testing. the time frame was well before any commercial drones remotely similar to that size existed as far I know. there isn't really any way I can consider the situation without straying into /x/ territory.

Eglin is frickhueg, so there's a lot of space for obscure stuff. There's all kinds of thing squirreled away.
They also have an extensive testing infrastructure -- tracking stations, radar, extensive civilian staff, blah blah. The surrounding area is pretty rural except for the coastal strip, so not many people will notice or care.

How does that work with the wienerpit?

        Anonymous

Looking at the windows on the side of that derpy concept I'm guessing one pilot walks from one wienerpit to the other before transition.

the design concept in question would rotate such that the wing tip becomes the nose of the craft for supersonic flight. the entire aircraft would rotate 90 degrees.

It could work for unmanned systems but I think they are going to run into some interesting aerodynamics when they have to move the centre of pressure in front of the centre of gravity to start the spin and then behind it again to regain stability.
