My Honda lawn mower will not start. I bought this one since I heard Honda motors are good and this model has auto choker.

The few times I get it to run, it runs for a little, and stops.

Did you leave it parked for a long time with regular gas in the tank?

Inspect the fuel lines and primer bulb and make sure none of that is obviously cracked. Then take the air filter off and unload a bunch of carb cleaner into there. Maybe you will see some improvement. If it’s still not right, pull the carb apart and try to clean the parts better and/or rebuild the carb.

Sounds like gummed up carb or damaged fuel lines, both common issues caused by leaving ethanol blend gas in the tank for months

This gets my vote too. There's only five things needed for an engine to run - fuel, air, spark, timing, and compression. Sounds like a newer mower so the last three are probably out. That leaves a clogged air filter, which you can check by just removing it and seeing if it runs, and a lack of fuel, which you can test by spraying carb cleaner into the air intake with the air filter out and seeing if you can limp it along. If it's a lack of fuel my vote goes to a gummed up carb due to leaving ethanol gasoline in it. Clean it out (you can probably find a video online), drain the fuel tank, and run ethanol free gasoline. If you're going to store it for a month or more, drain the fuel out of the float bowl first.

Do you let your grass get too tall? That mulch setting can only get you so far.

Have you have held a garden hose? And used your thumb to spray the out flowing water? Well what if your thumb was made of metal and it rusted away, because you left gas on it all winter. Because you didn't "winterize the lawnmower".

First unscrew the pan and let the gas and rust drain out, reattach and try again.

there's your problem, it's got to be a honda gx engine or nothing.

Does the auto choke have a lever you pull back before starting? Is there also a long spring you can visibly see that it's attached to?
If yes and yes, and you've tried the other things people said, this is likely your problem area. Take off that cover and clean it all out. Check the two springs You'll likely find a ton of gunk inside this assembly, so make sure to bring a toothbrush.

My new cheapo mover was hard to start an had sever problems in higher grass. Lack of power. Why?
Emission regulation for lawnmovers. They make them run ultra lean. I did buy a compatible $14 carb on ali. Problem solved. Runs great and powerful, starts easy.
The ride-on movers are rpm restricted in the EU. No, not a joke. I had to pry out the restriction in the gas lever.

    Fire some quickstart in
Keep priming it or spraying quickstart so it stays running until the ethanol in the gas line warms up and flows
Just takes a bit of play to get er going

Remove carburetor , hondas are the easiet
Turn upside down drain gas ( outside )
On bottom of carb is the bowl. One large bolt in center frees the bowl. Remove carefully.
Now slide pin out of float and carefully lift to remove itself and the needle valve.
In the bottle of the NV housing is the main jet…its plugged.
Use pic related to clear jet…re assmble
Use stahbl in your gas vext time
    Thank me later

Don't turn it over unless it is older than 5 years, just squeeze the clasp to release fuel lines, you can check for build up as well.

      This
      >Use stahbl in your gas next time
Or cut the fuel valve, and then add sta-bil to the tank.

Or before winter, burn up all your gas in the mower, and pore the rest in your car, then buy new gas in springtime.

Open carb throat, spray carb cleaner and ignite. Prime as per the manual in between applications, don't over do it. An octane raiser would probably help, especially with additives to clear the build up in the lines.

Don't flip your mower over, just not worth it

buy a new carb online for $17 and install. next time fire it up once a month in winter or run it until it's out of gas.

Roll it own its siide, take off the air filter, and pour a bit of gas down the hole. Should start right up.

If you look at the manual, you'll see most Hondas have an 'inverted start' option where you can turn the mower over, and get it started by wrapping a long rope around the blade, and pulling it, like you usually would with a cord. I did this in the 80's and won some money

I have this lawn mower, put it on rabbit, start then pull the lever back to turtle until it starts idling smooth and don’t touch the clutch until you’re ready to start mowing for the transmission

    Carb 100%

Honestly, if you didn't know it was your carb, just go buy a battery powered one, EGo or Kobalt. You'll save yourself a lot of headaches.

He will leave the batteries flat over winter and then complain they lost capacity. Life is hard for dummies.

        This sort of.

4 stroke mowers handle the abuse a lot better than smaller 2 stroke engines. I went battery powered for most small tools as I got pissed off at the 2-smoke carbs and fuel lines, but would probably buy another gas mower if mine were to die. Maybe another generation of batteries and I go electric mower.

Fuel. Air. Spark. All an engine is. Covert it to propane.
