My grass is about a foot tall. Is it ok to use a lawnmower or will I just tear up the grass?

Is it ok to use a lawnmower or will I just tear up the grass? Is a strimmer necessary at that length?

Put the wheels down as far away from the blade as it can go and try it out

this isn’t the place for this kind of advice, if op was going to do anything he would’ve already tried that. This is the place to procrastinate and idealize solutions while never getting anything done

It's fine. Is you are using a push mower you probably want to cut it in a way so that the grass is always spit out to the outside. Go around the edges in a square spiral to the center. Otherwise you will have to mow over foot long grass AND pulped clippings which will jam up the blade.

If it's that tall, make sure to bag the trimmings and dump it somewhere else rather than using the mower in "mulching" mode because that much mulched up trimmings is likely to kill a lawn.

Perhaps do a first pass with the mow height at the highest setting, then do a second pass with it at the desired height. Taking it all down at once would probably result in a really ragged uneven cut, doing this should result in a more uniform and even cut in the end.

Also, make sure your mowers blade is decently sharp.

Unironcally, get a scythe. A sharp one will cut that grass no problem, and you'll look metal doing it. From there, take care of your lawn and don't let it get out of control again zoomer.

Sound like a cool opportunity to use a machete, take a picture of the grass so if you ever have to explain to the cops why you have a machete...

A string trimmer at that height sounds like a nightmare. It will just tangle up every 5 seconds.

Just go slow and if it's clogging up, only cut half the lawnmowers width with each pass. You'll be fine

    >use a scythe
This will work but you also have a much higher chance of hurting yourself and it won't be anywhere close to as even

You mean pulling a muscle from the physical exertion?
Because I'd think a lawn mower lifted as high as it will go is more likely to grab your foot than a two-handed yard scythe, held properly so the handle is always between you and the blade.

It's a difference of like 2" or so and is probably just as likely to injure you. No part of you should ever be near the blades anyways.

And ya muscle pulls count I guess, but obviously swinging a knife on a stick while bent over in an unbalanced/awkward position is going to pose some risks

You shouldn't be bent over with a scythe, it should be fitted so that you are standing, the danger would be more from carrying it around or sharpening it the wrong way

Do a wheelie and push it around like that, then do a second pass normally.
