you don't have to do anything you don't want to. it helps to make sure they're unloaded but hopefully your father didn't fail at teaching you gun safety. sorry about your loss.
I was mainly concerned about them being legal. I don’t know if guns need paperwork or anything but I don’t have any. I also know ca has strict gun laws so how would I tell if they are legal.
they're legal. you acquired them through legal means. some states might require you to register but no one knows you have them. it's really up to you. there's no official paperwork like a bill of sale if that's what you mean.
>they're legal.
CA registered uhhsault weapons can't be inherited, so mostly true.
What’s considered an assault weapon? I don’t know the names of the guns I now own. And hypothetically if I had one realize I don’t and keep it in a safe forever? I know there’s .22 and shot guns. Do those need to be transferred or just pistols
just the ar15 style rifles and things like that
not really these images will be gone in 40 hours and there's nothing linking you personally to them. if you have questions this would give you the fastest answers.
thats exactly what a lot of us do. keep it in the closet.
>insert gay jokes here
yes and no. it'd be easiest for us to tell you if we could see them.
as far as registration goes, it kind of depends on when your dad got them and what he did. going back past a certain date you didn't have to register shit. for long guns its 2014 or so. handguns i think was 1990 or some shit like that. it's not a crime to have a gun unregistered to you in that regard. if it gets stolen you'd be kind of fucked though.
>Do those need to be transferred or just pistols
They all should be transferred. You might not get in trouble if the gun is pre 2014, but since the transfer fee is a one-time fee there's really no reason not to list all of them when you send the form to DOJ. The only exception is an "assault weapon" if it's already registered you probably can't keep it because the state has a record of its existence, but you can strip all the parts off the receiver and only surrender that. If it isn't registered you can just remove the pistol grip or lock the magazine in place and you're fine.
It would be easier if you post some pictures of the guns; blur out the serial numbers and markings if you're really worried about being identified.
It looks like you need to get an FSC to do the transfer. You can basically do this at any store that sells guns, even a Big 5. It's a $25 test and it's pretty straightforward, but you can find practice tests online if you're not sure you can pass. After that you need to send a transfer form and $19 to the doj.

the normal handgun-looking ones should all be legal. if you have rifles it depends. if it looks like a hunting rifle it's fine. if it looks like an AR or other more modern gun it'll be a maybe. we'd need a photo.
I’m guessing posting photos of ones I’m unsure of is a bad idea. I will heave to research them more.
He did fail at teaching you gun safety then. Keep your fucking mouth shut and treasure his last gift to you
I hope SWAT raids your house and takes all your toys.
This is genuine advice anon just shut the fuck up, posting a picture here to ask what you have isn't going to get you started but telling your friends you have cool guns now is
You'd probably be better off asking around at calguns.net for advice on what you're required to do to transfer them. I think you just fill out a form to send to the DOJ, but I'm not sure if there's more to it than that.
Thanks for the help guys. Here’s my favorite one. I like how it’s small, reminds me of a spy movie. I’m going to call a few gun shops and see if there is a range near me.
that's a really nice gun anon. that's a colt model 1908 pocket hammerless. good shit
Very cool, enjoy shooting it!
Gimme dat shit nig- uh I mean, nice gun anon. Mind if I hold it for a second? I want to show you something.
Can I see them?
Your father didn't 'pass' he died, you euphemistic gay! Distract yourself with his toys if you can, but death is coming for you, a whole day closer now.
Cope
wow bro were you keeping that in your back pocket for whenever someone doesn't use the word death
Cope
Fuckin weirdo.
As he desperately distracts himself from his own mortality by buying yet another pew pew.
At the range, he attempts to drown out the thoughts of oblivion with the roar of his rifle, but no matter how many rounds he fires, the crushing weight of death just won't lift!
This is why all the people you meet stop talking to you
Well shit. Found the school shooter.
go take your antidepressants gay
>nooooooooooooo Let's get back to bang bangs!
>don't remind me of deeeeeeath!
Genuine autism
Genuine copium.
This and every response you made gave me second hand embarrassment
2A cope.
Larkin was a whinging try-hard. He did hate morons though so that's kinda based. There's a recording of him singing a song about blacks
4chan is down the hall, champ.
This is the reason why hitler should have won. Not that other stuff but to gas all you autists.
Move to a free state, take your firearms with you.
Pathetic advice.
I think I’m going to call stores around here today to get some training on guns and get that certificate. I shot a few of them when I was a kid but I don’t know how most of them work. What I need is some boomer or other gun enthusiast to show me how to use all these and what the laws are
What city do you live near?
Hour away from sf. North bay
He's trying to doxx you.
I'm just trying to see if he's in an area where I know of a good gun store so he doesn't end up getting shitty advice the the myriad crappy gun stores in this state.
Between family members there's no requirement in California to transfer them. Alternatively, you lost them in a boating accident and the CA gov can go fuck themselves.
>t. Oakleyfag that got a Model 92 from my dad last year.
>within 30 days of the transfer you must also report the acquisition to DOJ on Form BOF 4544, pdf.
You don't have to go to an FFL, but you still do need to send the transfer notice to DOJ.
You are correct and I won't argue that. However, I will restate the following:
>the CA gov can go fuck themselves
Honestly, I'd look to see if there's a Sportsman's Warehouse near you. Cabelas/Bass pro should be fine too. Independent gun shops can be really hit and miss when it comes to service, often times trying to bullshit you into spending money on stuff you don't need. You really don't need someone to teach you how to use guns, there's plenty of videos on youtube that can tell you everything you need to know.
fed
How the fuck does this post make me a fed?
Encouraging illegal activity. Next you'll be telling him to cut down his shotgun.
Is this shitty bait or are you a genuine retard?
i think he's just mad that someone is getting some potentially cool guns as an inheiritance. that or he is hitting the narcotics pretty hard right now.
People like you caused the Assault Weapons Ban.
Seething fed,
schizos think that buying a gun outside of a dark alley makes you a fed.
Do they not know that feds are the ones selling guns in dark alleys?
I am in the north bay too OP, if you legitimately want help, send me an email and let’s connect. I’d be happy to help you figure everything out, supposedly there are some good ranges near the east bay, or one in Petaluma. You might also look into a Calguns account, they have tons of resources on that website.
Wishing you the best OP, may your father Rest In Peace.

getting the certificate is easy. my dad who is not the smartest guy out there got his first try. you can miss up to 7 questions out of 30 and get it.
also watch out for them boomers, some of them will report you because boomers gonna boom. the more modern guns are the ones you'll want to shoot because they'll be less likely to get fucked up. the older ones you would want to keep around as museum pieces (like the hammerless you posted)
fudd
*laughs in cracked frame 1911*
i have a couple of us army ones and yeahhh they're going to just sit in their case. if i want to shoot a 1911 i have a trp for that
Ok I’ll check out the sportsman store when it opens. See if they offer the cert I need.
I don’t think I really need training but it would be nice to have someone with experience before I use a shotgun.
Any businesses that is authorized to sell guns will be able to administer the FSC exam.
If you really want help with a shotgun try to find a trap/skeet shooting range. Another way to meet people and get advice is to take a local hunter's-ed class. They'll cover safe use and operation of guns and the people there will probably be able to give you recommendations on stores and shooting ranges in your area.
Get comfortable holding them, operating the slide/mag release/safety/etc on them. Dry firing (pulling the trigger without ammo loaded) can be harmful to the gun. You can get dummy rounds for dry firing at home, this can get you comfortable with loading/unloading, pulling the trigger, etc. It can go a long way to get less nervous for your first time at the range.
Cringe
Nothing more cringe than dropping your pistol down range
and this, PrepHole, is what happens when a schizo finds your thread
