Missiles don't work that way, they are programmed by the computer of the firing system upon firing. So you'd have to put quite the computer array on the balloon which would make your mine much more expensive.

Fox 1 semi-active radar homing missiles will need a radar and targeting computer on the balloon, Fox 3 active radar homing missiles will just need a battery to keep their own radar running long enough for the search phase.

Like a stationary air-to-air missle basically. So like a computerized jet missile on a blimp.

Yeah could be a good defensive weapon to save lives, like the Patriot or Iron Dome system. People have used the Patriot to attack jets, but the idea of the weapon is to protect civilians from missiles.

As much as I criticize zionism, it does not mean I want Israeli citizens to be unsafe or missiled. Just don't want to live under an occupation that forces us to support a genocide of Palestinians, Christians and children included. Many actual Israelis, under the Iron dome missile defense system, are also similarly critical of the government. Only tyrannical despots consider themselves beyond reproach and criticism. Censoring speech that challenges an oppressive status quo.

That kind of baloon would be easy to spot by radar and visual means. The enemy would then proceed to shoot it with a missile. You could, however, launch a few dozen of such baloons (not driven, of course, but floating in the wind) while equipping only a few with actual missiles. So the enemy wastes his expensive missiles on sophisticated toys. Maybe the baloons can drop chaff to further add to the confusion?
But there is a tactic to launch missiles hanging from parachutes ready to fire on any SAM base when it switches on its radar. So the pilots can focus on their mission while the missiles deal with the SAM stations on their own.

What advantage would this have over a SAM battery?

Sorry I couldn`t reply earlier. Based on what you`ve said, I made some corrections.
The main idea behind this is an early engagement over enemy territory where friendly AD can`t reach

So you want to put an expensive missile on a balloon that can be easily detected and have it shoot something down that will probably never appear in front of it.
Yeah seems like a great idea

    >wind changes direction
    >balloon drifts out of the AO into a neutral territory's airspace
    >engages an airliner
    whoops

So you're saying the Russians would be interested in this technology?

No I'm saying the Russians likely already possess this technology. Expect to see it during the Russian Winter Copefensive

Are you really trying to sage one of the few posts actually about weapons on this board because we weren't talking about Russia/Ukraine before you brought it up?

You can upload schematics like these to Raytheon and General Dynamics websites, if they accept the design you receive a royalty and big boy star award.

The price of something like a meteor missile is 2.2 million$, it weighs 190 kilogramms so the "propeller" you're talking is going resemble a small helicopter. Not to mention the targetting system like other people pointed out.

An ariel mine would be like this:

1)drop payload of mines into area
2)drones deploy from the payload and land on the ground and enter a waiting mode
    3) they listen for the specific sound signature of enemy aircraft and when heard shoot up tens of thousands of feet into the air and hover in a position trying to get sucked into the jet's air intakes and thus take out the engine
    4) drones that miss their target will fly back down and continue to wait, they can even re-charge with solar to increase # of attacks possible
    5) these waiting drones will be deployed by the hundreds, the more deployed the more they will spread out by altitude and distance to better have a chance of intercepting the incoming target
    6) the drones are highly camouflaged and not that large, can easily wait in enemy terrain for months undetected

    >encase mine in rubber
    >put altitude meter and metal detector on it
    >It only explodes when it gets close to a vehicle in midair
    >shoot out of cannon or drop from fast plane
    >mines perpetually bounce up and down, blowing up aircraft
    >too fast to reliably target with missiles
    Why wouldn't this work?
