Mortars

How bad is the shock wave/blast force when you shoot a mortar? For those who have been/are in the military, how does it compare to an 84mm rocket launcher? 84mm basically feels like you're getting punched in the head

I trained on 120mm and your vision blurs for a split second when it fires. That's it I guess.

Why don't they put suppressors on them? Is the US really too poor to afford basic kit like that?

There's a Blast Attenuator Device which can clamp on the end. It's a cone like a WW2 flash hider.

I fired the 120-RT-F1 at full charge.
It's enough to potentially hurt you by pelting you with dirt and rocks when it first digs in.
You feel the blast in your entire body.

    81mm is 40M lethal area.
    190M is danger area.

If you follow the correct drills, then the shock wave/blast force is next to nothing.

Has nothing to do with training. Depends on how many charges/the size of the round

At least with 81mm it's not a big deal. Just keep your head below to muzzle and you'll be fine.
Double ear protection is mandatory tho

About as lethal as a hand grenade, but with more range. Better rate of fire than a rifle grenade or underbarrel launcher, but its debatable if that's worth upgrading to a primary weapon for.

Know a guy who was protecting 155mm cannons in Afghanistan. Couldn't sleep for the entire operation basically, according to him they were firing pretty much the entire 3 days.

That being said, I imagine it's quite disorienting, blurs your vision and messes with your balance.
