Molding

What’s the cheapest way to use the leftover packaging of this toy that I found to mold my own toy planes? Silicone costs more than the toy, and I thought that sawdust/wood glue combo could work, but idk how well it could be painted afterwards. How can I do this for no more money than pic related?

Seems just as expensive as 2-stage silicone, but thanks for the suggestion. I may pick some up for the chimney cap.

it expands so there's enough in a can to do dozens of molds
just be aware that used cans tend to glue themselves shut, so it's a bit time sensitive
ideally you would have many molds ready to go in a batch

I don’t know why I’m helping because OP sounds like a giant homosexual but you can keep the cams open buy dripping some acetone into the can nozzle after you unscrew the applicator. Drip acetone into the applicator too.

The newer versions claim to have a self-clearing nozzle (not guaranteed).

If a can of Great Stuff is too expensive for you then maybe you shouldn’t be buying toys.

I’m not buying toys, but you should learn to read.

I’m looking for a very small batch size, possibly only one or two. Just trying to practice painting. I know using sawdust and glue would be basically free, but probably not smooth enough to paint.

I guess I should learn how to read. Have no idea why I would assume you bought anything…

You said $5 for a can of foam is as expensive as two part silicone. I guess it just irritated me. I get raped in the ass buying molding silicone and I wish it was $5.

Either way it’s your thread and I honestly don’t want to derail it so Godspeed anon.

It happens, but honestly you’re probably right anyways because I can use the foam for other projects, so $5 isn’t wasted. I just didn’t want to spend much money on making some DIY Christmas presents as stocking stuffers. I saw some silicone for hobby use on Amazon for like $7 which is why I said they seemed similar in price, fwiw.

Actually not the worst idea, haven’t done it since grade school though, but should be able to be painted.

sand with the right glue could work right? or enough heat(how much) to the sand??

Why glue? You can just use water to make it moldable

      Only good answer.
Eslewise the plane would look like shit with a flat and chunky bottom. IT wouldn't look like a plane for the vast majority of whatever he pours in there.
