I work for one of these companies and unfortunately it's not easily possible. You could steal one and swap out all the electronics to make it work, but at that point you might as well buy a bike or just pay for it
Yeah like other people said, the motor will resist as long as it has power. If you cut the power you'd just be left with a really heavy bike. If you wanted the battery assist, you'd need to replace a few components to stop the bike being tracked and let you lock/unlock it
these are the worst bikes to steal. not only they are tracked, they are also dummy thick and uncomfortable, really shitty bikes.
go on your local marketplace and buy a cheapo 90s mtb and some slick tires. or steal a normal bike.
Muhfugga sheeiiit muh dik mip do diddo bix nood (translation: Just take away an electric bicycle from another man, my friend. It might prove to be more economically and socially viable).
MUH DICK
(Translation: Good sir, while I can clearly see the potential that such an approach might have, I am disinclined to indulge any further in the thought. After all, I cannot return to living in a state of incarceration at the local penitentiary. As you might suspect, I am a repeat offender, and if they catch me, I shall receive the electric chair 'fore the cock crows that very next day. Good day!)
I actually ride these all the time, but sadly no battery assist.
They work as free slow bikes in the early AM or when I’m drunk. You just run with the bike rolling it up to speed , hop on and keep cycling. It’s works as a basic bike then but is cucked speed wise and makes this loud clicking sound, but shit, it works.

What do they do? Lock the rear tire up so they can't be used until putting money in?
Honestly curious as I live in the country and have never been around a rent to ride bike before. Real odd time to be alive.
The rear wheel locks using the motor. Cut the power cable it unlocks
