P cool dude
is there enough rotational inertia on those small wheels to keep the bike easy to balance?
Not relevant to low speed light wheel designs.
so which is it? either the gyroscopic effect is enough to keep the bike balanced, or you as the rider have to constantly be balancing the bike yourself.
the gyroscopic effect isn't a very significant part of what balances a bike anyway, it obviously has some effect but you can make a bike with 2" wheels and it still rolls along fine if you give it a push even with no one on it
the biggest factor is the angle of the front fork, the center of gravity, and the way the steering is set up behind the wheel which makes them naturally self correcting. If it starts to lean left, the angle the front wheel contacts the ground at changes, which rotates the handlebars and it steers towards the left back under its CG, righting itself. Normally that's a really tiny motion happening constantly and not really perceivable, but a more extreme version where the frame starts flexing and it overcorrects is what leads to the "death wobble" you see sometimes.
It's also something people do instinctually when riding a bike, if you want to make a left turn you have to turn right the handlebars slightly to the right first to get the front wheel to do a curve from the right to the left which keeps your center of gravity inside of it, otherwise you just tip over. Most people aren't aware they're doing it but everyone does.
Easy to balance, yes, 26" wheels
Yikes, most bikebuilders choose welding...
Also of note... did you use lead free or leaded solder on the copper on your hookah?
>most bikebuilders choose welding
Great deal of brazing in the bike building world and probably still more common for the low volume builders. Love a nice lugged frame. But yeah, aluminum extrusion is not a standard material when it comes to bikes.
In ancient defunct steel frame manufacturers.
You made a tall bike shaped object, not a tall bike
I did not build that. You sound like the sort of person who spends a great deal of time online justifying your $50 carbon fiber bar end tassels, 3/10th of a gram lighter than the $2 tassels!
I dont really do the bike thing much anymore.
You definitely bring the a hole energy for someone who didnt disagree with what i said....
I think the last brazed not welded bike i had was a 10 speed follis from the 70s.
>You definitely bring the a hole energy for someone who didnt disagree with what i said....
Just replying in kind. I did not exactly agree with you either.
Schwinn made lugged frames until at least the late 80s and quite a few made them into the 90s. Anywhere that sells frame building parts will sell lugs and most low volume frame makers still do lugged frames even if they also do other sorts. Lugged frames have some real advantages especially for one off custom work and steel is still the ideal frame material for most people. The three frame makers I know still regularly make lugged frames.
My comment didnt come with a hug, no.
But for the im a fab god, look at me energy of the op, im not super impressed
I would point out while acknowledging everything you point out in the last post is accurate, i still dont really think it holds up the statement "great deal of brazing in the bike building world" in response to the statement "most bikebuilders choose welding"
Youre not wrong to assert it is present, but id point out that your best example of schwinn has largely produced welded aluminum frames for the vast majority of the last two decades.
I see your point, semantically though lets not die on this hill. Its there, not in great amount
I think wed both agree OP s choice
"Looks flexy"
lol. I qualified my comment regarding brazed frames with where exactly those lugged frames were, LOW VOLUME BUILDERS, as in not the sort of stuff you find in your average bike shop. Bringing up Schwinn was just in response to your sideways suggestion that lugged frames ceased being made in the 70s.
>"Looks flexy"
Maybe, that sort of extrusion is stiff stuff but the joints are questionable, hard to say from this picture. But it is a tall bike, being well designed and built is almost antithetical to the form, I have seen worse.
The rewriting of the past wont help you.
I said most bikes are welded.
You said "great deal" of brazing in the bike world.
Truth is, it is present , but no one would describe it as a great deal.
You disagreed with an obviously true statement with unintelligent contraryness and said nothing about low volume or custom till your dumb statement was questioned.
The flexy thing was trying to figure some way to not be an ass to you despite you not bringing that to the table. None of those joints have shit for lateral strength. Bikes need this.
I wanna see when the thing squishes like an accordion after some vibration loosens some fasteners.
not even a helmet. I guess his brain isn't that important to him.
Anyone you know using lugs to make tall bikes?
Its that this has been done by hands blessed by the aesthetic...
And it doesnt look like what the op posted or have that attitude. Or yours, mr tassle. Youll notice i may be contrary, but im not accusatory.
I think theres an important difference.
so I'm guessing your apparent brain damage came from taking a tumble of that thing
it's made of fricking item bar lmao
you are a good diy'er anon, i look forward to your future work.
