Making gun from scratch

I want to make a gun from scratch, from a pre existing patent probably.

What machines do I need? Can I just get by with a lathe?

And why is it every time I ask how to do it I get a bunch of angry boomers yelling at me saying "YOU CANNNN'T DO IT".

Why do I feel like everyone is purposefully trying to deskill me, when back in the day literal teenagers designed guns in sheds.

      >he doesn't have class iii

idk have you tried googling it

I did everything and everyone is helpful and gate keeping knowledge.

Normally people go to school for this shit but i don't want to be an arms manufacturer for life. This is just a hobby i can do in my free time I mean machines are not that expensive and plenty of people make pipe guns in their yard. I want to make something with actual milling which is completely reasonable

Well if you want to make something with actual milling I think you’ll need a mill in addition to a lathe

It is not "just a hobby". It is an illegal activity that can result in kys.
Come to think of it, since you are likely a glowBlack person you should go ahead with your plan. Remember, there's a cute little star on the wall for you if you do it.

I unironically wish that every single person who ever came to /k/ and said or implied that making your own firearms was illegal (in the US) would die in a fricking fire.
have a nice day, you stupid homosexual. It is 100% legal to make any gun you can legally own under US law, provided it doesn't violate the NFA.

It's not even illegal in the UK if you have the right paperwork, which isn't hard to get and probably already have if you're into guns.

It's legal as long as the resulting weapon is legal.

Assuming you are living in the a country where this is legal, including most states within the USA, it is generally legal to manufacture a firearm for your own personal use that is legal to own in your jurisdiction. So people saying you can't legally do it may be either right or wrong depending where you live.

As far as the practical aspects it depends a lot on what firearm you are trying to build, what if any pre-existing parts you plan to work with and what tools/skills you have available. For instance cutting a receiver for an open bolt SMG out of a pipe and then installing all the other parts is pretty easy, whereas milling and rifling your own barrel then hammer forging a receiver/bolt with locking lugs for a full power rifle cartridge is going to be more challenging and potentially dangerous if you make a mistake.

So what is it exactly that you are trying to accomplish?

I just want tk make guns I can't buy IRL.

I tried to buy a magazine for a c93 and the price was ridiculous. I just want to make this shit myself.

I have background in CAD but I never milled anything in my life.

That is going to be very hard.

Old-world guns like the C93, C96, Luger, etc. are very complicated with finely fitted parts made out of high quality metals. There's a reason nobody can make an modern reproduction of one that actually works and doesn't cost as much as a brand new car (although a big part of it is scale).

If you are starting from a base of nothing, you should probably make simple things first such as single-shot shotguns and .22LR pistols/rifles. There are less variables to deal with while you master the basics, and more safety margin if you mess something up where the gun can break without hurting you. Once you can make something simple like that, you can iterate to magazine-fed designs (making a box magazine that works reliably is a lot more challenging than you would think), simple blowback semi-autos and only once you really have your shit together more high-caliber weapons that need a locked breech. I know it's tempting to try and fab something really sophisticated right out of the gate, but without formal training or experience that would be like trying to build a house from the roof down.

Build a glider before you try building a jet fighter.

Have you built (ARs don't count) or hand fitted parts for any firearms?

Go to Ashworth College in Georgia. It's only 700 bucks for certification. Paying 15k for SDI is an absolute meme, given once you have your tools you can youtube anything.
Get a dremel, get a vice, get a heat gun, and get a fixit sticks kit.

I don't disagree. Used to be /k/ was where you could get bomb recipes and lighting link templates, but gradually over the last decade the people who knew about that stuff left and got replaced by self-censoring puritanical homosexuals, and that's just sad. Try making a bomb thread now, and you'll just get spineless fricking pussies panicking about your wrongthink and accusing you of being a fed. I always take it as an admission of knowing nothing, because if they accuse you of being a fed they can maintain the pretense they know jack about the subject matter and have an excuse not to post it, but in fact anybody who knew shit moved on years ago.

I want to make a single shot 22LR. I think I can do it with my mini lathe and mini mill. I'll buy a rifled barrel blank or maybe even a profiled barrel in the white.

How good does it have to be? Rifling the barrel is generally the hardest part, so if you're not worried about things like "range" and "accuracy", making a smoothbore would be much easier.

Here's Philip Luty's guide on making a submachine gun: https://archive.org/details/homeexpedientfirearms9mmsmg
Even if that's not the design you end up going with, reading that should give you some ideas of the work that's going to be required.
