Can I let cement bricks dry in my bedroom while I sleep there?
I live in a shared flat and there is a door that connects my room to my roommates room. It is never used, but it lets trough a lot of sound. I can understand every word he says in his room and vice versa.
My solution is to make custom cement bricks that I will tightly stack in the hole in the doorway. I can remove them when my lease is up so I can get my deposit back. This seems like the best option, because cement is quite dense, so it will block sound well and very cheap. Foam insulation doesn't work.
The problem is, the only place to let them dry is my bedroom. I live in the city centre and don't have access to a garden. Is this safe and will they dry properly or should I open my window?
lmao
just buy a MDF board and duct tape it over the door
Buy a soundproof curtain
OP here. I got evicted for destroying the apartment. Lucky me, there's enough bricks to build my grave.
Never do this, they will rob and murder you in your sleep.
do i understand it right that you are going to block the entire door with cement bricks?
if your apartment is so cheap that you can hear your roommate like that then i would be worried about all of that weight doing bad things with the floor
Yes, the low-smell cement formula is 1 part sand or gravel, 1 part bleach, 1 part ammonia. Make sure to close the window and put a tarp over the door to your roommates room sealed with duct tape so he doesn't hear what you are up to
Don’t ever mix bleach and ammonia.
Why, I love the smell!
Yes.
I forgot to mention I live in europe. The wall between us is about 8inches/20cm thick. Solid brick. The problem is the wooden door.
It is a double door. Over two meters high and about 120cm wide. I want the isolation to be really good, because I don't want to wake up my roommate when I bring people over.
Quickest way to do it would be to tape tyvek on the inside of the walls of the closet and spray insulation foam in there, that way you can remove it when you move out. Of course this is a moron fix and buying soundproof curtains would be better lmao

No an emission of cement going off is carbon dioxide, not sure whether or not it would be a harmful amount without ventilation.
