The thick layer of fat piggies have on them. I killed boars with 12ga slugs and never had this problem but bullet ballistics aren't always 100% the same. Shit can go wrong.

....
Wait...
Americans are getting fatter because fat stops bullets and their population is therefor genetically selected through the survival of the fat ones in school shootings, as they have time to reproduce before dying of clogged arteries?

Mythbusters did this and you'd need about 2 feet of fat just to stop a 9mm
It's 2-3" thick layer of fibrous fat. 5.56 has no issues penetrating that, neither does .308 obviously. Pistol hollow points do have that problem.
As you can see in OPs photo. That bullet came in at pistol speeds. Must've been some moronic habdload.
At 200 yards a typical 150gr 308 bullet is moving ar 2400fps.
The bullet in the OP expanded as much as it could, something it's designed to do only with in a certain velocity range.
The reason a .308 or .223 might not make it through tough hide and subsequent bones is because of pic related.
The faster you strike an water based object(all life), the more resistance is placed upon the bullet.
Two data points. One a pop culture show where they actually shoot things on camera, and another with a story and a pic of a deformed bullet placed on a bisected hog shield.
This is reshared off a twitter thread. In the original, several guide guys asked for pics showing the actual wound track because they called bullshit. None could be provided. As the feral Harrell says, you be the judge.
How about you put your money where the wiener usually goes and bring a tub of fat down to the range and stop a .308 with it and prove us all wrong homosexual

recreate the experiment and post results here or stfu you contrarion homosexual
A 9mm, non-expanding bullet moving at 1200fps will outpenetrate basically all expanding rifle rounds. A Hard Cast 300gr bullet from a 454 at 1600fps will net you 4 to 5 feet of penetration.
This isn't the jelly-like subcutaneous fat of humans. It's a dense fibrous mass that is a special adaptation for protecting their vital organs from being penetrated by the tusks of other males. There's no equivalent structure in humans. Closest thing is how some parts of our skull thicken in response to puberty to help us take hits to the face better.
>jelly-like subcutaneous fat of humans
collagen content is universally 2-4% for all mammalian fat deposits. >In two old boars (>2·5 years) ‘backfat’ from the scapular region consisted mainly of a dense white tissue with a high collagen content (>20% of fresh weight) and a low lipid content (<10%) compared with normal backfat.
Effectively 5-10x the normal ratio of collagen to overall fatty tissue weight. They still have subcutaneous fat elsewhere that is the normal 2-4%.

If we go by water providing the most resistance, then you would logically conclude since the shield has >10% less water part for part, it would be less bullet resistant, but that isn't the case
Unless you've found a way to fit a 450 grain bullet in a .308 case, then yes velocity is the deciding factor. The heaviest subsonic .308 I could find 220 grain. Going at susbsonic speeds youve basically .45 acp +p with a smaller wound channel.
True, but good fricking luck tagging them there once the sounder breaks up after the first shot. At least, I can't hit them there on the run. Maybe some of you all can.
>full power 308 giving the benefit of the doubt as a even a fricking a bonded softpoint >stopping that much energy in 1" left in perfect ballistic gel tier pass through form without fricking shattering, breaking up, or turning to a pancake
Use your heads anons, even with a handgun, if you ever shot steel, a rock, or anything excessively hard you should know this is really lazy bait.
>Every living thing eventually evolves into a crab. The crab is the most effective lifeform on this planet
It is happening with mammals as well.
I fear the day the crab-hog is spawned into existence from the pits of hell
I hunt hogs with .308 and I believe that the bullet got stuck, but the 200m may be false, the bullet maybe some cheap shit, and the Image and position may be exeggarated. Also he may hit brush or shot at an extreme angle.
The bullet I hunt with has looses 20% of its Energy going from 100m to 200m. So I highly doubt that the story as portrait is true. But I believe that ITS possible in general.
>almost believable
cut a swath of pigskin and put mushed bullet on the fat, snap a photo. there's no hole in the skin, no cavity in the fat. I call bullshit.
>.308 >1/2" penetration into the shield >picture is obvious bullshit
suuuuuure. Should've used a .22, would've pinged all around the inside of the pig until he was a walking can of campbells extra chunky
shield?

You know that diabetic hump you see on Walmart shoppers?
It’s that.
....
Wait...

It's also for when fighting for mates. The electric shopping carts lack protection on the sides.

Doesn’t even have to be water based, it’s simply a function of drag (which occurs in any medium)
Pillowy mounds of stacked hog fat

Alright, going to find a hog and shoot it. Be back in ~1 week.
Response?
the shield isn't fat, its bone and cartilidge

ITT: morons who don't understand that subsonic 308 is nothing but a heavier 32 ACP

Big brain time

An AR15 is desirable for 30-50 feral nogs
Must have hit brush first. 308 would have no trouble going through an inch and a half of bone, much less flesh.
Is that a lead cast bullet?
No, that is pretty clearly a jacketed bullet
Jacketed in what though? Every jacketed bullet I've hand loaded has had a yellow copper jacket. Is this zinc or what?
lurk more or leave
Thats why you don't shoot them there. Pic related.
True, but good fricking luck tagging them there once the sounder breaks up after the first shot. At least, I can't hit them there on the run. Maybe some of you all can.
fair point.
>Random made up text above picture
>.308's are trash
oh reddit
What sights are those
Riiiiiiiiight. So they just happened to cleanly cut around the bullet, almost as if it were... never there in the first place.
That pic is fake as frick.
Been some time since I've seen that.
Some memes simply do not have an adequate modern version.

Why you don't use buckshot on piggies
