Log home

Do you think I could build a log home to building code? Would they let me make one if I submitted plans, or would they say, it's not efficient enough for insulation or something odd?

I'm planning this in maybe KLAMATH COUNTY Oregon.

Also any idea of the smallest I can build in square foot?

The property is very off the main road, hard to find. Never would it have traditional electricity or water, yet I would need to put up solar panels, I wonder if they look on satellite photos to bust people just trying to live?

Maybe you should call your municipal codes office and ask if what you're trying to do needs codes.

Here, this took me about 60 seconds to find:
        https://www.klamathcounty.org/Faq.aspx?QID=163

No information you get here is going to be better than just asking the authority you are 100% going to have to deal with anyway. From how your posts sound, "Just bust people trying to live" it sounds like you don't own the property yet, don't have a building plan yet, and are worried about the county citing you? Why even take the risk without first knowing if you're going to have a problem with code enforcement?

^Wisdom. Always get a plat map for your prospective property before buying and get adjacent maps if necessary to determine you cannot be landlocked etc.

Never do anything amateurish when you can copy the pros.

I did call them yesterday and they didn't pick up. Maybe they're busy. That's why I came and posted here.

If you are Californian you're probably from a bigger metro area, so one piece of advice to you from a fellow job-stealing, house buying, rent increasing commiefornian refugee to another is expect things to move much, much slower than in the city. You will need to actively try talking at a much slower pace if you want to fit in and want people to understand you, and small local governments will probably take multiple weeks to get back to you at the earliest.

That's a good idea and then I could take the tarp off at night to charge the batteries. Yes he goes together. We're figuring this out. Thank you.

Ted would not be asking how to follow the laws. Ted, had anger issues and ruined his life over it. He was right about most everything, yet the magical journey of life was passed by him because of his seething anger. He need to get laid and smoke a joint or drink some beer.

You either outgrow your inner demons or you don't. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll can only go so far in this quest.

True, I have smelled what it's like and I like the smell.

Why I'm asking for advice on how to build it legally.

If I ever catch one of you animals pouring out your shit bucket at the fence line again, you're gonna have a bad time. Keep away from your neighbors. Build your shed as far from others as possible and pour out your shit buckets close by and I won't bother you unless garbage starts blowing across the fence line. Toilet paper will dry out and blow along so use it sparingly. Also, shit inside your shed. No one wants to see another human being living like an animal, that's why we left the city in the first place.

if and only if there was already a housing unit at the time they changed the law (1990s). Oregon is special that way.

      t. my uncle predicted the mass exodus from California and when oregon made the has a dwelling laws to prevent people from endlessly splitting properties, grabbed some nice pieces in wolf creek below grant (*above?). anyway what he failed to predict (or ever see) is that almost none of those fricking CA rats would go into Oregon but out into texas and colorado.

The real question is how much does mr registered engineer charge to certify your cabin as equivalent to code? This could mean anything and I bet there is a guy somewhere that knows a guy that certifies shit. Probably to easy find someone if you follow icc 400 2012 and expensive if you don’t.

it's one of many ways of holding builders accountable for the things they build
way back in the code of Hammurabi if a house collapsed (it was a lot more common back then) and killed someone the builder would be put to death as well, same sentiment today except they kill the builder financially
