Continental philosophers are all moronic. Any philosopher who isn't a drooling spastic becomes an analytic philosopher. The analytic vs continental divide is one of the fundamental reasons why the Anglosphere is so much more successful than mainland Europe.
Imagine if your entire system of mathematics had no numbers or operations such that no result or working could ever be adequately checked for validity. Mathematics would be largely useless and the field would be full of con artists whose success would be based on charisma, in-group popularity and politics. That's continental philosophy. A tradition worse than useless.
>>Be Michel Foucault >>Try to device a new way of thinking >>Call it critical theory
Critical theory was frankfurt school and there isn't a single american on this website that actually knows what that means. Foucault ist a mix of post-structuralism and (historical) moral relativism

Why is that painted on that tank?
I'm gonna guess whatever unit that belongs to was involved with the liberation of strasbourg in 1944
it's a tad newer than Leo 2/M1, so it should be pretty decent. It's also got an autoloader. Downsides: much fewer units built, fewer upgrades, no APS implementation planned yet.
frogs paint names of battles they fought on their armored vehicles
Because frenchies are actually one of the few euro countries that need some degree of overseas projection but don't have the money for it(nor that they would ever admit it) so, how do you keep an expeditionary force on a budget? Acceptable Air Force with a Light and support forces in a small and technical professional army with at least medium airlift capabilities(and a navy too but the Charles De Gaulle lel)
Getting tanks to somewhere is not even about the ships and planes, but all the heavy logistic tail that you have to drag behind to keep them going. Which is fine if you are in a coalition of countries that can give you a hand but not so fine on your own in a country with railways built in the XIX century and that it's a constant dakar rally everywhere.
So Leclercs are kinda like the french nukes, they are there mostly to defend the country and to feed the ego of the average frenchman, but no one really expects them to use them except on special occasions.

said. And once you've factored the logistical impossibilities, you can start thinking about the industrial impossibility of a country like France to project power against a (near-)peer.
Which explains why French doctrine regarding national defense hasn't evolved much since the cold war: nuke whatever is invading.

Why are French people buttholes? Every French person I have ever met is such a mean-spirited downer.
French people have to deal with French people all the time anon. That and we're overdue for a revolution. The 5th Republic is technically our longest-lived political regime since Divine Right Monarchy (technically as the 3rd Republic officially spanned from 1870 to 1940, but that's a bit of a stretch considering it didn't have a constitution until 1875 and a return to constitutional monarchy was considered until 1876).
Also, the "Ancien Regime" block at the extreme left looks artificially truncated. Shouldn't that extend a bit further to, what, the Merovingians or something?

It marks out the start of the Bourbons. A new dynasty is at least as big a change in government as De Gaulle getting a new constitution made.

Agreed, but in that case it should probably extend back further than Henry of Navarre... House of Valois and the Capetians at the very least. (Does Charlemagne count as Ancien Regime? Carolus Martellus? Anybody after Caesar?)

No, the 4th republic is a juridical extension of the 3rd and so is the 5th. People don't want you to know but we still live in the 3rd republic with an amended constitution.
>The tests started in 1973-74 and showed that it can reach a rate of fire of 8 rounds per minute and, in special cases, it can fire three rounds in fifteen seconds thanks to a semi-automatic loading system. The howitzer was improved, including a combustible shell casing and an improved automatic system allowing it to fire 6 rounds in 45 seconds.
I've read posts from /k/ autists that said the latest model of the tank is one of the best MBTs out there and posts from other autists claiming it's the worst tank imaginable. It's probably ok
Its a niche tank based on extremely mobile combat to the detriment of protection. One could argue it was the best tank in the world for the 2000-2010 period but lack of updates and logistic issues following the dismantlement of the production lines make it pretty irrelevant.
As one anon pointed the French army leadership is dominated by "light" infantrymen who don't care about tanks, hence no tracked IFV/bridgelayer/engineering etc. to escort it on the battlefied.
It does share the same survivability issue as the Leo 2 in that it’s ammunition stored in the front right hull section isn’t protected by a bulkhead with blowout panels, so a catastrophic kill is possible if something makes it through the frontal armour or penetrates the sides. In fairness, basically every MBT design except the Abrams and K2 lack a compartmentalised section with blowout panels for the ammunition in the hull. Any frontal hit would still have to penetrate the main hull armour to get through. Those Turkish Leo 2’s infamously blown up in Syria by ATGM hits to their hull were all older 2a4 models with relatively obsolete armour.
Overall, still a very good design but maybe something like the K2’s solution for the hull ammo storage would help mitigate the chance of their tank crews getting bbq’d.
That isn't a blow out panel. It's just ERA slots which is still ok, but the K2 ammo stowage is identical to the Leopard. There is a pic that has been posted around here a few times.

France is not ruling it out but it makes little sense from a logistics/training point of view. There weren't that many built in the first place and France isn't exactly drowning in surplus Leclercs. Sending a dozen more Leopards or Abrams would be better than sending a dozen Leclercs.
France could send a few obsolete Mirage 2000C, for the purpose of back lines missile/drone interception, if it feels the need for Ukraine gibs points.

It's getting an upgrade, a 1st batch of 18 Leclerc XLR will be delivered this year.
Here are the upgrade :
https://www.edrmagazine.eu/the-french-armed-forces-renew-their-confidence-in-nexter-with-the-sustainability-and-renovation-of-the-leclerc-tank
There's also a new fire control system to fire programmable ammunition and ammunition "with effect".
Future upgrade could include active protection.
Like the assault rifle western tanks are basically a commodity at this point.
The differences between the latest Abrams, Leopard 2, Leclerc, K1, Type 90, etc. are negligible at scale. Any of them will get the job done.
Unfortunately France doesn't have to fight conventional wars, it surrenders and is liberated by someone they complain about like Britain or America. Therefore ethe focus of France's equipment is managing colonies in Africa, it takes NATO peer Vs peer equipment and redisgns it to fight blacks with RPGs, aks and machetes, and makes it equipment specialised at dabbing on these tier of threat. Except Frances equipment still somehow does worse than Rhodesia did with short shorts and a fal.
So as far as France, what can be said? They spend alot what do they get for it, not a clue
It's the best MBT currently in service with notably the best FCS ever made but it's a b***h to actually produce. I think the company that made them actually shut down? Someone with more knowledge could probably explain.
The asiatics from worst Korea copied the Leclerc autoloader to make their K2.

Exactly, as a matter of fact, they're escorted by these
The only real weakness compared to other better armored tanks is the front of the turret, around the gun.
When a Leclerc is coming at you with the autoloader ready to go, you need a lot of luck to hit that area.
For urban combat, the Azur kit looks pretty effective.
The end of the production is not an important point : the buyers have been delivered. (the production material has been kept, just in case)
The tank can be updated, and this is what Nexter is doing in France with the Leclerc XLR.
It does share the same survivability issue as the Leo 2 in that it’s ammunition stored in the front right hull section isn’t protected by a bulkhead with blowout panels, so a catastrophic kill is possible if something makes it through the frontal armour or penetrates the sides.
