This.
Glasses just work. They're a pain in the ass, but they work.
Eye surgery has a non-zero chance of something going wrong. > are you going to risk your eyes on a slot machine pull? > or a power outage? > or an earthquake at just the right moment?
Also, friends that have had eye surgeries, more than 0 have reported some sort of post-operation complication: stars / dazzle effect in one eye at night, eye tear too much, eye too dry.
The starburst lasts differently on different people, some chance of it being permanent but for the few months it existed for me it was a big stepup from the astigmatism halo. Your night vision tanks for a bit as well, the dryness/itch is just the effect of your eye healing. Use the drops they give you often and liberally, don't let the $30 refill charge spook you over the few grand you spent on your eyes. The grit/dry/itch goes away once the eye is healed after a while and it's really dependent on how often you apply the drops and use of regular eye drops, don't rub them.
Have you never worn glasses?
The quality of life improvement is quite big. Simply being able to go outside and look at trees in better detail makes the price worth it.
Kek, this. The first week or so after lasik was painful, but the first day I opened my eyes and could see the tree outside my window in stunning UHD made the cost and discomfort worth it
I still do, the lasik couldn't correct it. But my vision is still far, far better than it was, and I can function without glasses now where I couldn't before.
Astigmatism is how you're eyes are shaped, they resemble footballs more than a ball. Lasik will help, it doesn't take it away.
t. Guy with astigmatism that got lasik.
I've been trying to save up for this for the last decade. I'm so sick and tired of wearing glasses all the time.
Got lasik 20 years ago.
Eyes were crap again in 5 years.
Save your $4,000 and eye weakness get some $100 glasses.
Glasses suck. They're 100% pussy repellent. That shits fine if your old and married. I use to get women hitting on me all the time till I started wearing those goofy looking fricking things. Tried contacts one time and bam a girl hit on me that day.
I got my gf wearing glasses (she doesn't wear them) and she likes putting them on. Blaming not getting pussy on specific items is just cope. If you have a plainly unattractive personality and lifestyle, then you don't get pussy.
What is it with women and putting them on other people's glasses? Half the time they handle them like an extra chromosome child so you have to worry about them bending them
it just means people don't associate your physical appearance with the characteristics associated with glasses, e.g. "success, dependability, and industriousness, and most strongly intelligence”
lmao sorry you look like a dumb loser naturally
https://www.rd.com/article/why-people-with-glasses-look-smart/
a lot of places will do it within a year. you'd probably have to pay for an insurance type thing to get touchups later in life. but, depending on how long you plan to live, it would probably be worth doing. practically everyone becomes farsighted as they get older.
That's still not 5 years, my eyes were great 1 year after the surgery.
And remember this was 20 years ago. Whatever deals or hooks or enticements or warranties you see today did not exist back then. Nobody did touchups, nobody had guarantees, nobody had deals. Nobody had incentives as there was no competition, these places had lines months long back then and they all banked on reputation alone. The more successful surgeries they had under their belt, the bigger the lines got. I had to sign a stack of terrifying waivers absolving them of any possible liability, spelled out in detail line by line listing each way my eyes could be permanently damaged.
The touchups you're talking about are short term meant to correct slight errors during the surgery. That would certainly be a nice safety net to have so you have a better chance at excellent vision afterwards but it does not stop your eyes naturally decaying, as they will continue to do.
Youre supposed to only get lasik after your eyesight degradation stabilizes. If you get it too early it will get worse over the years
It always gets worse over the years, your eyes are going to do genetically what they're predisposed to do, Lasik doesn't stop it. The best you can do is not torture your eyes in front of a monitor after getting lasik. People whose lasik lasts a decade or more are lucky, people like me whose eyes change rapidly are unlucky. That's why glasses are the goat, you can always change them without much expense.
>And remember this was 20 years ago.
i have no clue who you are or how long ago you got lasik, anon. yeah, technology has gotten better in two decades. you can do lasik on someone intentionally moving their eyes around, the computer will just shoot the beam when the eyes are lined up. the human doesn't do anything, it's not like he's tapping the tapping the shoot button, it's more like a cnc router for your cornea. lasik and PRK are nuts now.
>The touchups you're talking about are short term meant to correct slight errors during the surgery.
the 6 month one is yeah. if you cough up the money for a lifetime plan (i have no idea if it's worth doing, but it might be), then when your eyes get worse they'll zap em again. maybe that's not worth doing, you can always get lenses implanted.
What does you paying for an extra service have to do with reputability or the lack of that service existing 20 years ago? I'm glad your eyes are taken care of but why you throwin shade cuh
I was functionally blind until I had lasik. It's been years and my eyes are fine. I can drive and shoot without glasses, and generally see fine detail more than a foot away from my face now
>has to be redone every ~10ish years >doesn't fully fix astigmatism >can cause permanent blindness >have permanent in your eye >can have your lense fall out from jarring impact, such as recoil
To all the bean brains here. Your eyes are lens, lack if clarity and focus is caused by lens irregularities. These can be shape and surface related, but typically vision irregularities are caused by your eyes not being the optimal shape. Lasik fixes issues by removing the top layer of your eyes and them placing a new correct lens on top. As you age your eyes will change. They may shrink or you may have worse issues like surface scarring (go scratch a pair of glasses and then put them on), or you might have the capillaries in the back of your eyes burst or bleed leading to light being blocked from reaching your optical nerve. All of these have had a wide variety of treatments to address them, but be aware, scarring on the eye remains the worst thing you can do to your eyes. LASIK by nature can lead to scarring, but is largely prevented thanks to the use of the laser which cuts a perfect flat uniform cut, compared to the crazy ass Ruskies who used to do it by hand with scaples which lead to microscarring that 20 years later would result in near blindness. Back of the eye bleeding has been fixed using lasers to cauterize the bleeding. But scarring remains the worst. beware surgeries that cut your eyes, and remember glasses are cheap and easy, or if you wish to go for a semi permanent option you can use gas permeable rigid contacts that temporarily mold your eyes at night and last through the day.
The scarring is the main reason they've switched from lasik to PRK and whatever the newer one is, no cutting flaps, just lasers. There are still places that offer lasik but the newer methods are more prevalent and more recommended. Though if you said PRK less people would know what you mean, same reason Kleenex is synonymous for tissue.
yeah. in order to shoot the laser into your eye, it needs a flat surface. if you shoot the beam through a curved surface, it will bend the light and not hit where it's meant to. with PRK they effectively squeeze down the surface of your eye to make a flat surface to lase through. downside is that it takes like week or longer until you can function properly.
lasik, they cut a flap and lift the front of your eye out of the way, and lase through that flat surface. then they just seat the flap back and you're good. you can see normally in a day or two. however, you also have a flap in your eye forever.
that's literally the only benefit. a couple of days without sight vs a week without sight.
PRK I was up after surgery and could see to piss, the down time is like a few days of just relaxing but you can see (not well) immediately after surgery.
>go in for my yearly checkup at the optometrist >get to the questions >bring up lasik >doctor stops entering stuff in his tablet and turns towards me >spends 2 minutes explaining why I shouldn't get it because of the shape of my eyes and how they will change as I age more >then spends 20 minutes ranting about Costco and how much he hates the Kirkland brand >morphs into a story about a cop that used to be one of his patients who liked to test out how his glasses prescription by quickly drawing his gun and looking down the sights >"G-got it doc, thanks"
My grandma says I look handsome with my glasses anyways.
it always blows me away when i think about people with -6. my mom is -6. i'm -2, and it's bad, but i can function. i can drive without glasses, reading signs and shit, but i usually can't read a license plate unless i'm like stopped a at a red light behind them.
but -6, frick me dude.
same man, im -1.5 and signs are kinda hard but you can guess them; license plates are near impossible. tbh i like my glasses and my friends say they make me look kinda cool so thats nice i guess.

-6.5 get on my level bros. I don't understand the complaining. Even I can get lightweight high-index lenses that are thin enough to be unobtrusive.

don't think about it. touch grass. I have been experiencing floater buildup since my early 20's, my dad just had surgery because he was convinced the Dr.s were wrong and he had tropical worms in his eyes or some schizo shit and now he's going blind from scarring and needs another surgery. The risk is real. Get over it.
>Permanently mod your body and cause irreversible damage >potential of regret increases as you age
Is laser eye surgery the axe wound of the ortho sphere?
lol my cornea's too thin for lasik
if they cut into it even a little bit they'd punch right through
I was offered lens implants instead but frick that I'll just wear glasses and get a bunch of 1-day contact lenses
n=1 but my grandmother was getting cataracts and they implanted lenses for it, and corrected her vision at the same time. no complaints.
thinking about it, i wonder if they block UV. they probably do.
keratowhat?
nah my eyes just suck ass, I got 7 diopters in my left eye and 8 in my right. I'm not colorblind or have spots but without my glasses my focus point is 2 inches off the tip of my nose.
actually I guess it's technically -7 and -8 but you know what I mean
one of my friends has a lopsided prescription of -4 in one eye and -9 in the other so one of the lenses in his glasses is 3x thicker than the other one
>letting people cut into my one and only view into the world and risking being locked in a black box forever so that I don't have to wear glasses anymore
i'm fine wearing glasses and laser eye surgeries have a not-inconsiderate chance of complications
Just don't go to a strip mall clinic, use the steroids, don't be moronic.

I just don't care and noway I'm letting some fricker shine a laser in my eye just so I can the dot be a slightly more sharper.

The problem is not when it works. The problem is that it might not and simply leave you blind instead. Glasses don't do that.
Huh? You must have had some severe astigmatism to see blurry stuff.
I still do, the lasik couldn't correct it. But my vision is still far, far better than it was, and I can function without glasses now where I couldn't before.

I'll wait till I'm thirty as my eyes are still changing and developing as of now.
My astigmatism comes from when a guy cut my eyeball resulting in 6 stitches across it. Can't be cured by lasik.
I got prk and still get starburst on all lights, didn't help at all. Still was worth it though just to never bother with contacts/glasses ever again
Lasik fricks up your eyes. It's better to have astigmatism than become functionally blind.
