No, it's to conduct large-scale maneuver warfare, which is a concept completely foreign to the Russian military

That appears to be the plan. Understrength Ukrainian formations will be going right up the gullet into heavily fortified positions in open fields. Maybe they're hoping to achieve a local breakthrough in the Zaporizhzhia region or somewhere else. All of the discussion I have seen of this Ukrainian offensive seem to rely on the Russians never mounting a counter-offensive. Very odd.

The idea is that the Russians wouldn't have the resources to mount a counteroffensive

A counteroffensive with what exactly? what's left of their tanks and APCs after they got annihilated in the winter so-called offensive?

Every formation Ukraine is committing to this offensive of theirs is understrength. This is the last hurrah before aid gets pulled (because it ran out) and they are forced into negotiations or simply abandoned like the South Vietnamese and Afghans were in prior conflicts where the USA directed the show. It is no problem for me if you continue to consume deceptive news that paints a rosy picture for Ukraine but know I will be humiliating you once that rosy picture gets crushed by reality on the battlefield.

It is Russia that has had their weird ass fantasies crushed by this war. Really what’s going to happen if this counter offensive fails is that operations are going to get smaller and the war will settle down

Hilarious how you vatnik morons always bring up Vietnam and Afghanistan, but fail to realize Ukraine will fight you for decades if it has to, even if you win the conventional part of the war. You're delusional.

If Russia could break the Chechens they can break the Ukes. Genocide and torture works wonders.

Chechens were 1 million people and a small geographic area. If the ruling class weren't traitor thieves, the Chechen revolt would have been crushed, and laughably so.

Chechens suffered atrocities like that that strengthened their resolve. But in the end Russia could commit so many more atrocities than the Chechens could imagine.

Defense contactors are working overtime for the first time in years and making money hand over fist. You think those in Washington who represent the areas where production sites are located are going to kill the golden goose?

China doesn't want democracy in Russia. Besides that they're not too fussed with the outcome either way. I'm sure they would prefer a Russian victory but they're not going to push for it.

It describes every successful offensive of this war. The failures were zerg rushing 100s of tanks through cities or minefields.

The trick is finding a field that's actually open.

Wasn't that literally the Soviet Union's strategy if the Fulda Gap became reality?

      Anonymous

soviet deep battle was to focus on attacking the least defended areas of the NATO line after the defenders had been draw out
the intent being that taking a lot of physical distance to threaten the flanks of what they need to defend was preferrable to trying to tackle hardpoints directly
so they would initially attack on a broad front with their T-62s and T-72As to test NATO defenses before committing their T-72Bs and T-80s into weak areas

artillery was meant to be main killer, maneuver units would be used to shape the battlefield and then pin the enemy units while artillery then destroyed them
the opposite of NATO tactics, where artillery was used to shape the battlefield and suppress defenders while maneuver units would destroy them

        Anonymous

        >armys using artillery as a main killer against a defending force
I never understand why anyone thought this was a good idea unless you got precision munitions
I know that artillery is a very big killer in war but most of those kills happen when the enemy is attacking and not against dug in defenders unless you got a monstrous amount of artillery with no counter battery fire
Or Am I just moronic and seeing it wrong?

    >Is NATO’s plan for Ukies really to just zerg rush with 100s of tanks through open fields when Russia has Air & Artillery superiority along with defences prepared?
Neither side has made meaningful use of air power and the Russian artillery advantage is a meme because of how shit their fire control is. And the Russians have hastily prepared defenses that aren't likely to stop a serious attempt at a breakthrough. More importantly, when there is a breakthrough, the Russian military simply doesn't have enough mechanized reserves to mount an effective response nor is there any capacity for defense-in-depth. This leads to results like the disastrous "Kiev feint" and the "gesture of goodwill" in Kharkiv. And also, you are vastly overestimating NATOs control over Ukraine.
