the great irony is that a $5 Chinesium "survival knife" made out of garbage tier stainless will outlast muh powder metallurgy if rust is what you're worried about.

you're wrong. some of the modern blade steels are pretty insane in rust testing. I've seen videos of magnacut soaked in vinegar and salt for a week with 0 rust.

which begs the question of why aren't guns being developed with these steels for the consumer market?

because a knife is a fraction of the size and requires far less mashing, cutting, shaping, and other processes to form it into the proper shape

        >some of the modern blade steels are pretty insane in rust testing.
Yes. But not as good as the 440 the chinks like to make fake rambo knives out of. Now I'm not defending the knives, they are shit, but rust was the least significant possible factor to pick if you wanted to discuss modern knife steels.

        >which begs the question of why aren't guns being developed with these steels for the consumer market?
Many guns are made of stainless when rust resistance is a concern. Otherwise its a different material for a different job, and the same properties that make it retain an edge well also make it a b***h to machine. They're different tools for different jobs.

        >marvels of powder metallurgy supersteels
Excuse me sir, have you considered suicide?

Because you trade rust resistance for material strength and cost.
You could make a barrel out of stainless and it would wear out after a few hundred rounds.

The steels that you'd use for knife making aren't the same ones you'd use for guns.
