Kindle

Hello, "recently" got my hands on an old Kinda, no idea what kind it is, I just know it's at least a year or two old. Is there anything I can do with it besides read shitty Amazon books ? any way I can frick with he software or simply some other potential use for it ? Battery doesn't last all that long either so I just want something fun to do with it

You can pirate a billion books and a few million out of copyright.

My idea if I ever got an old one would be to use the web browser and run an auto refreshing page on a home server with information (weather or calendar or something) and leave it on the charger. Maybe even add controls for lights and stuff in the house, or a knowledge base/plan collection for in the shop

Yes, that's a good idea. There are several projects for that sort of thing and the results are pretty good since that's the type of data that doesn't need refreshing every second.

My Kindle has a micro sd card slot.
I download free ePub books to the card while it's in my laptop.
Move the card to my Kindle and read away.

all i do is download epub and kindle formats and pdfs and read them on kindle.
my only regret is that i cannot use heavy pdf with larger sizes, because he cant open it because its too heavy.
it´s nice because i charge it only once a month and read when i get the feels.
i disabled wifi on him, because my kindle paperwhite use to have more options controls on adjusting the light itensity and color, but automatic updates removed that.
since them i just use usb cable to upload shit to read.

PDF is a shitty format for low-power devices. They are like MP4 files that lack an index, meaning that the reader has to do a lot of backtracking just to get to where you wanted. Despite this, the majority of PDF files are formatted for 8.5x11 or A4 paper. Mobi and ePub formats are way superior for eBook readers as the indexing is a lot easier and they are essentially formatted text, but not typeset pages, letting you resize them at will.

1st and 2nd generation kindles with wifi and 3g supposedly had lifetime/worldwide internet access (primarily to buy Amazon books and magazines), but they also came with an experimental web browser. I wonder if Amazon kept their word. Do they still have free 3g?

Probably in places where 3G still exists with the providers Amazon selected. In the fine print it likely stated that Amazon doesn't guarantee that these networks will continue to exist forever, just that for however long they do exist, the free service will continue. For those who are in places where 3G is gone forever, Amazon does offer some compensation.
      >Amazon is emailing affected device owners explaining they'll get a $50-70 discount towards a new Kindle and $15-25 in eBook credit, and Amazon tells us that Kindle 1st gen owners are outright getting a free Kindle Oasis.

Repurpose the screen in a diy project, the panels are pretty well documented online if you identify which gen it is

Uh how about you pirate books for free of libgen and then put them on the kindle over USB using calibre?
