>2A6 drives on a land mine and gets tracked >crew safely evacuate and the tank is later recovered for repairs >2A4 gets hit by a lancet >automatic extinguisher puts out fire
What more would you want from a tank?
>virgin Leo crew has to return beaten and shamed to their comrades >chad T-series crew ascends directly to heaven
Westerners are such cucks it's unreal.
>Who the frick would still want to buy Leopards after the absolute embarrassment they just suffered in Ukraine
lol if you find that dipshit errr emm that ~~*educated customer*~~, stell him some patriots too, i heard they intercept Kinzhals!
Based Italians. EU weapons for EU countries. We should buy FREMMs or Orrizonte-class destroyers in return, they're better than our underarmed "frigates".
nah, we don't need more ships. while underarmed we have enough for AD and support. instead we should throw money at the Italians to get AW249s without moronic meddling by politicians. Swap out the chin gun by some German gun and thats good enough
Not a big issue really. The Euro/NATO market got involved into a war and realized that standardizing helps greatly. Yeah the Koreans lost their chances there. But now all the countries outside NATO are last in line for getting Euro/NATO equipment and might have to wait a decade for deliveries. Where better for them to turn now than to South Korea?
>and might have to wait a decade for deliveries
Not if Italy gets a Leopard factory as the rumours suggest. Czechia should get one as well, and all three operating would dramatically increase the supply of Leos.
Building new factories take time and just the existing orders are going through the roof. And the factories are facing insane demands for parts at this time too. If I was say Indonesia, I would not hope to be a top priority for a new order now.
What countries would that be though?
South Americans are broke and never bought many tanks anyway. Japan has their own tank and Taiwan is going for the Abrams. India buys Russian and Pakistan Chinese. Israel has their own tank as well while the rest of MENA either buys Russian or American. I guess they could try getting the Gulf monarchies to buy the K2 over more Abrams and Leclerc.
Korea needs to make a big push into the Indian market. Not even joking here. India is a big country with a rather large army and need for tanks/IFVs. The only reason India has been buying Russian all this time is their political elite is still mad at the West for British colonialism. South Korea meanwhile is a former victim of colonialism themselves while also a mostly neutral party in world affairs. The poor performance of T-90s in Ukraine coupled with Russia's need for more T-90s themselves and economic troubles means right now would be the best time to try and sway India into buying a different tank. Last but not least India's most likely to face war in mountainous regions just like South Korea making the K2 an even better fit for India (and much better than the T-90).
I don’t think the lack of boldness was an issue. I think the war in Ukraine just screwed them over a bit. It shifted the focus from new tank but maybe a bit cheaper from very far away to new tank but quickly and without new logistics issues.
I was talking about the European market rather than Ukraine proper. Ukraine is happy about any kind of tank they can get. South Korea has a lot of good reasons not to rush into Ukraine. >With its anti-landmine ability
This one for example might be a double edged sword. If it performs as expected then it’s a good marketing pitch. If by some unfortunate circumstance a Ukrainian K2 gets blown up on a land mine it’d be a marketing nightmare. You just know Vatniks would spam pics of it all across the internet and the entire anti-mine capability would be questioned by potential customers.
There’s also the entire issue of Ukraine being a tank producer country. Right now they’re getting 30-40 years old Leopard variants. If they got their hands on a K2 they could straight steal some concepts from it, integrate them into a new T-84 variant and try selling it on foreign markets as a cheaper alternative.

Perhaps though they could launch a JOINT feature with South Korea? South Korea could use Ukraine as a launching point for its own tanks, and in exchange helping Ukraine develop its own indigenous tank models.

Again why South Korea is better up teaming up with Ukraine. It's the surprise arms marriage no one saw coming, lol. Go after India afterward. Get the proven money in Ukraine first.
They already have Poland for that don't they?
Also I believe Rheinmetall has beat them to it since their CEO was pretty open about ideas of opening factories in Ukraine post-war.

Personally? If I was Ukraine, I'd get everybody who would pay up to build factories inside my country. The more MICs set up shop, the more valuable my country becomes to their own war efforts (and the less likely I'll get invaded by Russia).

Italy operate home-designed Ariete main battle tanks. 30 year old platform (with some upgrades), but the platform is obsole and out of production and they are the only country to use them. Current warfare show that this is a weakness. Not to mention that they are Italian-made...

Doesn't change the fact that you're a tourist with no knowledge of tanks if you did you'd know these facts.
1. the upper front plate is literally just spaced armor, the hull has no based composite, only heavy NERA that is added it later upgrades, and that comes at the cost of mobility
2. The turret armor is so outdated that even slavshit 3bm60 and probably even fricking 3bm42 could penetrate the cheeks.
3. the gun and fcs are fine tbh

I never denied that the Ariete sucks, I just think something being made in Italy isn't guaranteed bad, relax, I'm not trying to attack you brotha.
Neat, Leo 2s are much better than the alien-ass Ariete. Hopefully our engineers pull their head out od their ass and make a competent home-grown tank next time.
>Hopefully our engineers pull their head out od their ass and make a competent home-grown tank next time.
Often it's not the engineers' fault. Time, money, and especially politics are fantastically huge limiting factors. Stop blaming engineers, they're always doing their best. Blame the fricking managers, bean counters, and decision makers.
You're right, ingegnere, you guys are alright. Hopefully the *politicians will pull their heads out of their ass and properly fund and provide supplies for a successful home-grown tank.
Poland did get some K2 delivered last week iirc. They’re also supposed to get an entire factory which should produce a local variant with some very nice features the K2 lacks otherwise. But as time goes on the K2PL starts resembling a K2M more and more.
Wouldn't be surprised if batlics are gonna buy some polish made K2's. Norway, Estonia and Finland have K9's too so they could get spare parts and new ones from poland.
Norway already decided to go with the Leo 2A7 iirc. Finland also operates Leopards so it’s likely cheaper for them to simply upgrade to a newer standard.
norway stated no reason why choose the leo2 or publicized any testing data. everything about these trials you read on twitter was made up by butthurt poles.
The only thing any Norwegian said on the matter was some general complaining over purchasing tanks in the first place. He didn’t want neither K2 nor Leo 2 but wanted to spend the money on cruise missiles instead.
Israel plans first-ever sale of flagship Merkava tank to European country. What country will buy Merkava Mk2/Mk3? My money is on one of the Baltic countries they usually buy second hand israeli crap.
>buying superior tanks that survive hits and get the job done instead of russian mobile crematoria for four
That's how smart armies that aren't obsessed about penny-pinching at the expense of combat efficiency do it, you know.
As uncharismatic as krauts are at the end of the day most white people are just more comfortable making a deal with an autistic german than with a bug man.
This has nothing to do with price or tank performance, koreans just look fricking weird.
italy is currently the NATO failsafe against turkey. if they get too uppity, they and greece will be the first to intervene. besides, their tanks were really, really obsolete and it was starting to become a political issue
I cant believe how stupid germans were not giving those tanks earlier. It's literally free advertisment. KMW and Rheinmetall knew it this is why they tried to push it faster.
We knew, they knew, everybody knew that Leos will shit on every russian zigger and the crew will only receive minor injuries, yet german politicians were afraid that muh bad reputation because of destroyed leos.
What happened to the Ariete? I thought Italy had a modern MBT of their own.
They are a stopgap measure waiting for the MGCS to be developed.
Who the frick would still want to buy Leopards after the absolute embarrassment they just suffered in Ukraine
people who aren't idiots and understand that weapons getting destroyed in a war is nothing extraordinary
LMAO vatnik what happened to leos exploding and throwing turrets?
pretty sure that thats a poolak
>2A6 drives on a land mine and gets tracked
>crew safely evacuate and the tank is later recovered for repairs
>2A4 gets hit by a lancet
>automatic extinguisher puts out fire
What more would you want from a tank?
it sugs my penor
it would be quite nice to see them blow something up and prove they are more than expensive APCs tbqhwy
you have to wait for ukis to release their videos then, because the vatniks won't show you how they get blown up.
a camera near the tracks so I can see vatniks getting turned into red carpets.
Militaries don't buy Tanks based on War Thunder forum discussions
>ITT, if a tank survives hits, protects its crew and is repaired and returned to service, that's an absolute embarassment
A tank is only a tank if it's turret can hit orbit.
Pardon the trolls; they have a family to feed.

No.

War materiel gets destroyed in wars?
What are we at nearly 2 lightly damaged at this point? Pretty damning. Not everything can be the invincible challenger
Cool now tell me about the combat history of the K2

Koreans are smart enough to know not to get involved.
And in other news
Sending anything to Ukraine is basically cheap R&D.

>SIR WHY DID YOU REDEEM THE K2
>SIR WHY DID YOU REDEEEEEM, THE MBT YOU CANNOT REDEEM MOTHER BLOODY BASTARD b***h
Agreed.
BE BOLD, South Korea!!!! Stop chickening out!
India has over 4K T-90 and T-72 variants in service. Just think of how much Korea could make if even half of those were to be replaced by K2.
I don’t think the lack of boldness was an issue. I think the war in Ukraine just screwed them over a bit. It shifted the focus from new tank but maybe a bit cheaper from very far away to new tank but quickly and without new logistics issues.
Ukraine would happily buy such a tank, if South Korea would put in the effort. With its anti-landmine ability? It might as well be a done deal.
I was talking about the European market rather than Ukraine proper. Ukraine is happy about any kind of tank they can get. South Korea has a lot of good reasons not to rush into Ukraine.

Why would Italy even bother buy tanks? Are they obligated to just by being in NATO?

Anon, if you're trying to imply things about other countries, it's bad form to do it in a barely passable ESL English.
I'm not implying anything. I say that stuff made in Italy is shit.
How dare you. My coffee maker from Italy is absolutely wonderful.
So is your English, my guy.

Rumor is the K2 MMW radar can detect land mines. which if true makes it the best tank in the world
What about the polaks? Arent they using them?
they might upgrade theirs to A7/A8 standard, but they're not getting new ones
I was talking about the K2, not the Leopards.
Poland did get some K2 delivered last week iirc. They’re also supposed to get an entire factory which should produce a local variant with some very nice features the K2 lacks otherwise. But as time goes on the K2PL starts resembling a K2M more and more.

Israel plans first-ever sale of flagship Merkava tank to European country. What country will buy Merkava Mk2/Mk3? My money is on one of the Baltic countries they usually buy second hand israeli crap.
Baltics or Greece most likely
No we don't
T. Balt
Imagine if they sell it to Russia.
The absolute madness.
That would be some 5D chess move by the US to help organize an arms deal between Israel and Russia.
>buying proven nato garbage instead of cheap Russian t-90's
lol
Nice troll, when a t72 with a worse turret design gets hit it still kills the crew, mean while with nato tanks

asiaticbros,
First the Pollaks snub our K21 shitbox IFV and buy their own Borusk, NOW THIS....
South Korea should ask Ukraine if it wants its tanks already. Ukraine is so desperate for tanks, it hired Alan Grant to find some fossils in Montana.
As uncharismatic as krauts are at the end of the day most white people are just more comfortable making a deal with an autistic german than with a bug man.
This has nothing to do with price or tank performance, koreans just look fricking weird.
Both are great tanks but Koreans already have around 2000 frames ordered between Poland and Turkey so getting any more would probably be hard.
Also Italy is literally right next to Germany.
Lithuania wants some 50 MBTs too, I hope they go for Leopard 2 as well

82
literally why does Canada even have a military?
it makes no sense
I wonder how well a MBT designed for war in Eastern Europe will fare in fricking Indonesia...
Italy needs tanks even less than the UK. At least the UK has a proclivity to invade other countries. Who is going to attack Italy?
Italy
