      what made it famous?

The fact that he didn't treat the general audience like morons. Same as Ross Perot.

Big mistake, every politician who does this inevitably loses. People want safety blankets that reaffirm their beliefs like Obama or Trump, not difficult choices with downsides and personal responsibility.

This is unironically true. If you depend on morons to give the green light, you can't speak eye to eye to them. Explaining real odds, possible bad outcomes, and current dragging issues is always almost going to sound like "yeah we're gonna lose better save face" in their empty brains.

Extreme charisma and military competency. The Iraq military seized to be effective a few days after this video. That also helped the reputation of the conference.

Most great generals these days are effective administrators and decisive leaders rather than strategic or tactical geniuses. Nonetheless, he was at the helm of arguably the most lopsided and decisive military operation this side of WWII. He would have gotten a lot of blame if things went breasts up, so he deserves the credit too.

I went to see him speak in high school because I thought there would be war stories. All he did was talk about his prostate cancer charity for 45 minutes.

Anyway, one way or another he did his job, so he should get the credit for that.

The American poster girl for the invasion. His job was to take attention away from the fact that there was no post-invasion plans or actual enemy weapons of mass destruction, and he did well. Mesmerized every 'embedded' journalist so well that he made several male Foxnews reporters pregnant just by rumbling at them. A true hero.

norman wanted to just attack iraqis head on. US war plan was actually thought up by dick cheney.

norman fricked it up by autistically sticking to muh time table.

yes but not in the way people think. Generals in the US military do not develop grand battle plans a la Napoleon - that's instead done by legions of staff officers. The big things that GOs do is set intent, which in his case was communicating the President's political aim in clear military terms: he personally briefed all his division commanders and it was made clear what the overall operational goal of Desert Storm was: the destruction of the Republican Guard.

He did his job. But there wasn't anything extraordinary in kicking Saddam with a army that was far more advanced than the Iraqis.
That's one complain that people are voicing more and more. The US has extremely good subaltern officers but the generals are usually just uniformed politicians.

I'd just put it up to America's GOD teir logistics and communications set up, GPS did most of the work and Satcoms made coordinating easy. The Marine "feint" actually forced Norman to advance his time table by 8 hours, due to them just rolling over Iraqi trenches and causing liberals much butthurt.
