Its a rifle, itll still put holes in things 500m out if you do your part even if the effect on target isnt knocking socks off. That being said extra magnification can be really useful even at moderate ranges(ex 100-250m) where you're much more likely to actually engage a threat. At that distance its hard to tell the difference without magnification between a guy holding a pipe and a guy holding a rifle. If you have a mixed mob of angry people with only a few armed individuals in it(frequent occurrence) extra magnification for properly identifying targets is nice to have.
