Joining the Army Reserves at 35

Been thinking about joining the British army reserves for a while. When I was younger I decided to just work in a factory and deliver pizzas for 70 hours per week for a few years until I had money to invest and become an entrepreneur and the rest is history. I don't regret it for a second. I fricking hate my country, it's stupid corporate sponsored culture and it's corrupt government. I hate most of the people in it and I actually spend more time abroad. I would never die for this place, especially in the illegal wars we have started in my lifetime.

But it gets to me because I don't have the skills that soldiers do, even reservists and I feel as though I should have some of those skills. I just think as though if the shit ever did hit the fan and our army was called in to do something other than war crimes for oil companies, then I would know what to do, as opposed to just being a civilian casualty.

Stop over thinking it and just do it. You will hate every minute of it but there will be days at the range where you have fired thousands of rounds and not had to pay a cent, free medical and dental, it will get you fit/fitter and you wont have to die wondering.
Also, Reserves are fun, the intelligence of a soldier who spends the majority of their life in the civilian world and CHOOSES to do army shit on his days off is a lot higher than a full-timer.

homie, noserve reserves are laughing stock, and rightfully so.

Have fun building tents for the fulltimers and getting shit on as a thanks wherever you go.

Do it. Then when you're done, move to the US and buy land. That's what all the other veteran brit expats do.

You learn nothing in Basic and AIT. Nothing of any consequence. If your body can handle it then go for it but dont really expect to be any more operator than someone who hunts and shoots.

I feel you anon, I joined the US National Guard as an infantry guy at 28, then went SF at 32.

Its worth it to scratch the itch, trust me. I'm pretty burnt out by the Army right now but I would never, ever say "I wish I hadn't"

Same, I joined active duty infantry at 33. It sucked, but I'm glad I did it.

    You'll just get bullied, I wouldn't bother.

Don't waste your time. Apart from the RAF, working for the UK military is a complete waste of your life.

You sound like an absolute demoralized egocentric crying sperglord c**t, my friend. They're going to smell that in a second, probably because they get dozens like you every year, and have you clean toilets until you quit. In fact the hovering miasma of a throughout whiny c**t demoralization makes me think this thread glows, but it casts a cherry red shade rather than the usual lime green.
    >But it gets to me because I don't have the skills that soldiers do, even reservists and I feel as though I should have some of those skills.
So the "I'm gonna join the Foreign Legion." phase of autism. Buy a tent and go camping, while you're innatent read some SAS survival guide while watching gay boot worship videos, that should meet all your needs.

I remember talking to my Dad about whether I should try join forces (I was thinking RN, like him) when I was 25.
His response "Too old. Do something else with your life."
And that is what I did.

This would be the dumbest thing you could possibly do.

When I joined in 2018 the upper age limit for new recruits was 34. Not sure if that's changed
