No JD threads, riding mower, or lawncare threads? hmm
I pick up this little guy last summer, went over everything, new belts, new mulch blades, pulleys, all maintenance done.
Im having issues with traction. I am considering upgrading to a pair of SuperLug rear tires.
I heard that precise fit wheels with bearings are a must have, anyone have experience with them?
the steering feels quite loose, any way to tighten it up? the mesh between the steering shaft and that gear is large, and looks unadjustable.
Seat is pretty torn up, are the aftermarket seats any good? JD prices are a bit too much.
what other improvements can I make?
what's the cheapest JD lawn tractor that will still take a snowblower attachment?
this is what i need. i need a lawn tractor that has attachments like snowblower, snow plow, and one of the those lawn sweeper things
also i want to mount a bunch of semi-truck style clearance lights all over a lawn tractor and its trailer maybe even add a CB radio and a police car style spot light on it.
That's called a 'tractor', anon. Or a skid steer. A lawn tractor mows lawns, that's it.
You contact the dealer to have them replace whatever is broken, and re-serialize it to the computer, so it will recognize the new part as 'authorized', and allow you to start the vehicle you supposedly own.
The big JD lawn tractors are actual tractors with PTO and attachments and shit. You can get them in diesel too
Obviously, I am aware of that, if I am making such a joke about adding implements to a JD lawn tractor.
Those are pretty standard attachments for a lawn mower though
If OP is getting attachments for lawn mower as pictured, that might work in a sandbox environment. Rural properties with hard brick-clay, rolling hills, nothing flat and no organic material, need terracing with larger machines. The slower that rainwater runs down the hill, the less destructive it is. Nothing less than a skid steer or serious tractor does anything out here but mow the lawn - if someone is so stupid to have vast tracts of ungrazed lawn.
Everything as a lawn, is an egotistic statement to passersby, that the owner is so wealthy, he doesn't need to grow his own food. Boomergays trip over themselves for lawns.
Every day Im reminded how good it is not to be schizo
Every day some poorgay posts a comment to PrepHole for attention, contributing nothing to the conversation, and identifying himself as a male with deep-seated insecurities.
Everything he said is true though. That little lawnmower will maybe work in a small yard doing absolute butter work. Give it any hard ground and it will struggle and tear itself apart. Machinery weight and rigidity is a thing for a reason, whether it is a tractor or milling machine...
You guys can get snowblowers for the 100 series. They’re belt driven off the pto. You can get manual plows as well and box blades. I’ve actually been thinking about a lawn sweeper for all the leaves and sticks in the yard from all the 140ft.+ trees on my property.
i just rediscovered a big lawn sweeper implement in my shed that the previous owners left. its at least 48" wide with a big raker wheel and big catcher bag.
i just need some kind of lawn tractor to tow it with
I would sell my mom if I could get a big lawn sweeper implement with a big raker wheel and big catcher bag.
is your Mom a good cook?
you wont tighten up the steering on that shitbox learn to deal with it. make sure everything is greased good anything steering tie rods etc that can help. make sure gear that the steering shaft runs is not worn out those can be replaced. can vouch for the carlilse super lug tires they are great. .
Those hydrostatic drives seem to fail after a few hundred hours, never had an issue with the wheel bushings as opposed to the bearings. The Kohler engine in my JD LX255 lost its governor wheel so it’ll be due for some work soon
OP here, I picked up a set of new bearing for the front wheels, and flat washers for the steering pin.
Went to install everything, looks like the previous owner already installed wheel bearings. I did add the flat roll bearings to the steering pin. Didnt really notice much of a difference. Folks online calling it "power steering" idk about that.
I am looking to get pic related instead of super lugs, these are the same price, I dont have to remount wheels, and i'll have a spare set.
These are thinner wheels, 20x8-8 instead of 20x10-8.
would these be a happy medium between stock turf tires and lugs? I need more traction up hill, and in bumpy areas where my tractor tends to get caught on heavy growth and loose grip.
oh yeah, just got back from mulching leaves. the flat bearings are a nice upgrade, quite noticeable on grass
Reminder that John Deere started the war in Ukraine as a way to stop Ukrainian hackers from releasing more unauthorized firmware for John Deere equipment.
tire chains are cheaper
nah, a new set is $65. a third of a new wheel and tire. and its gonna be shit on asphalt.
Welcome to john deere, they own you and it’s up to you how you feel about it. If you’re smart you’ll get out now.
what's the best back pack leaf blower for around $500 USD?
I'm looking at the Stihl BH 600 and people seem pleased.
It'd be for residential work 1/4acre up to an acre as well as cleaning the local church.
BR600, and yes. Get that. Don’t ever have anyone start it while it’s on your back.
>Don’t ever have anyone start it while it’s on your back.
Why? I scored a Stihl backpack blower a few months back for $50. Fricker runs fine on the gas that was still in it. Didn't have to do anything to it at all other than prime it, choke it, and fired up immediately.
In the same deal I also scored two flammable cabinets full of gas/diesel cans with some fuel in them and 5 gallons of John Deere Hyguard for $100 each.
It hurts like a motherfricker.
I think so. The main comparable I found from some forum farts on arborists sites seem to be the Husky 580
Nice green-painted chinese-made MTD clown car
All of John Deere’s products are made in the USA. Tractor engines are made in Japan by Yanmar. But the finished piece is made in the US.
You mean made in china, and shipped to the US to have Hayzeus slap the decals on, aka "assembled in the USA"
John Deere doesn't manufacture these residential riding mowers they put their name on. They are made by MTD in China, and shipped over to the US to have the motor installed, just like all the other "brands" that are made by MTD. Only commercial-grade John Deere mowers are made by John Deere in the US, not these big-box grade suburban toys.
I dont believe thats true, MTD tractors have substantially different construction than JD tractors. This is probably a misconception arising from the fact that JD uses MTD (briggs) engines and other parts. The JD zero turns are the ones that are outsourced to some other company, and theyre pretty universally reviled. From what Ive seen JD tractors are significantly better and longer lasting than MTD tractors
As paradoxical as this may seem, you don't have to believe something in order for it to be true. MTD makes the residential riding mowers that have the John Deere branding on them. Riding mowers intended for commercial use are made by John Deere themselves.
ok, feel free to post any proof whatsoever
if you actually owned a JD, you would know which components use SAE bolts, and which use metric bolts.
I own an LX178. The entire thing is metric aside from stuff thats always SAE like axles. Are you trying to imply it was made by MTD?
My riding mower hood/cowl has a few broken tabs, and some of the pieces are separating. I'm planning on taking it apart, and replacing whats broken.
would it help to reduce noise to line the underside of the hood with dynamat?
has anyone done any sound deading on a riding mower? i cant find much info on it. i would be nice top not have to wear ear pro for 4 hours straight.
Leaf vacuums any good? Don't mind buying something commercial like MacKissic or whatever equivilant, but I've never even seen someone use one, let alone myself. So no idea what to look out for as far as being sold a line of bullshit.
