It uses a shorter barrel made with secret Japanese steel folded 1000 times over so it's able to produce the same amount of power as longer western barrels. Not joking
>T55 but vaporwave
It's better than no tank. The Japanese stash them in company-size groups around the country as mobile fire support for their garrison troops.
At a certain point wouldn't it be easier for the JASDF to purchase a super-heavy lift capability? (like a C-5 or C-17) to air transport their MBTs instead of using a very lightly armored wheeled 105mm that can be air lifted by their existing cargo capabilities?
Just focus the effort on the MBT and a larger cargo plane and you don't need to develop the lighter type 16 at all.

He doesn't know >Produced: 1968-1989
The C-17 also just recently left production 6 years ago so it's not much better. Japan ironically has one of the best strategic airlifters in active production. The current plan is to go the opposite route with the future LCV which could fit either 1 per C-130 or 2 per C-2.
I doubt JASDF would buy C-17 instead of asking Kawasaki to make bigger, four engined version of C-2. They'd probably give it a highly creative name, like C-3
Tank battles are won by who spots and fire first, not by armour.
The enemy will always deploy a munition or ATGM capable of killing you, no matter how much armour you have.
i like the concept. jap tanks are light as shit because they'd destroy japanese roadways. any other army would have a hell of a time trying to get their tanks (heavy) (gay) anywhere. therefore japan is immune to enemy tanks
pretty cool armor if a hesh round passes through the tank OP
No i saying in tests they fired a hesh round on the side of the type 61 it went clean through the tank.
Flys straight through the tank potentially doing less damage than if it had impacted and exploded.
>Literally invincible against hesh rounds
>Not a proper tank
OP is a homosexual.
>Armor so weak hesh round doesnt even detonate passes cleanly throught the tank
Based af
I just like it bros.
Forgot my picture.
Why is the gun so stubby?
44 calibre. Same as the Abrams.

Lazy bastard didn't even put anything on the hook
>Posting an old-ass tank model that's already been phased out
No armor is best armor
Japan has wheeled tank destroyers which is based.
IDC about anything else.

is it like their version of MPF?
The picture in the OP is the type 61 which was retired in 2000. You're thinking of the type 74, which is a much more modern design comparatively.
Their version of the MPF is the type 16 shown in
, it's intended to be easily transported by aircraft/boat to reinforce the various small islands closer to China.
