Modern 40k is too cancerous, spare those poor fags.
OP: modern 40k minis design is overall pretty bad. They left the old design compromises ("must be a game token as much as a model"), and overdesigned everything. New marines are particularly bad at this, with infantry and vehicles that should have stopped 2 weapons ago but keep going.
Play 3rd-4th edition with your friends if you want to play.

Adeptus Astartes could very easily be units that could operate without external support for extended periods of time (like the real life USMC) but they use weapons that would be utter hell on logistics chains while the armies (Imperial Guard) that could get away with that don't do so.
Amazing how you have that completely backwards. The IG needs logistically simple gear because you're having to equip and supply trillions of Guardsmen across a galaxy using unreliable FTL travel and communication. The Space Marines rarely have supply anything bigger than a company at one time who are usually on comparatively quick missions using their own dedicated logistics. On top of that the SM can piggyback on the IG for a portion of their logistics as well.
