ITT: Gear you'd most likely not even realize you need
>Pocket bellows
This shit was such a gamechanger for me. I live in a climate where it's damp and humid 8 months of the year. Being able to ventilate and get a fire going with even really damp wood is pretty manageable with a tool like this. Could use it as a straw too, why not?
What's your knickknack that you see rarely recommended here?
My hot tent stove has these perfectly sized small little air vents. When I wake up during the night and my stove has burned it's fuel down to embers, it's so easy to get a fire going quickly. Load it bottom to top, shut the door and blow two full exhalations with this. Within minutes my stove his like a strawberry again.
Might be very obvious for most, but setting an aluminum shield behind the stove was another big upgrade. All that heat was being lost radiating towards the back wall, whereas now I can redirect some of it back towards the middle.
if you painted this green on one side would it work at hiding the fire?
No, because the fire will illuminate whatever opening is left, and it's easy for humans to spot a fire going.
Practice the dakota fire hole and other stealth fire methods, a trenching shovel is what you need
Yep that seems to be the only option. Feldspaten it is
a mirror finish might be more effective at camouflaging it
I know how this story ends. Me and 5 elk will be abducted by chinless ETs and they'll take me to their planet just to tell me I'm not good enough and then drop me back down
Yeah these things are a no brainer once you have tried one, they are cheap and work great. Kinda don't realize how much easier they make life until you use one.
tent splint works fine for me most of the time, its not as good of a billows but it weighs less and serves multiple purposes.
>Gear you'd most likely not even realize you need
tenacious tape until the first time i needed it
if you have tin snips and a hole punch already you can order titanium sheets for $5 from alibaba and make a ti windscreen for a lot cheaper than they retail for btw
the ti ones are a bit flimsier than the plates, they're good for compact setups
red light also doesn't wake up people you're camping with as easy
Haha sounds really handy anons it must be comfy to get that little campfire going. Maybe one day I'll move to Scandinavia and I'll know the thrill of cooking a sausage on my stove and other exxtreme things that are illegal in my country.
Thinking about getting a stove fan for the winter months, anyone have any experience with one?
Does it actually move the heated air around enough to be felt in a 4 meter diameter Tipi tent?
I know a guy who had one on a fire in his front room, Noticable if your a meter away.
I'd rather have one than not have one even if it is just decoration
post tent
Polystyrene tipi, 4 meter diameter in size.
yeah these work pretty amazingly, their position being right over the fire prevents the heat from immediately rising and instead circulates it around the room
Those are so fricking expensive and for no reason.
Just fricking switch to sublumen already. This isn't Vietnam.
I have one I've used a few times, it's pretty good, but it gets pretty noisy
red LED headlamp. you can still see everything perfectly, others can barely see you, and you're not ruining your night vision. Mine takes 18650s also which is very handy.
I have a petzl that has a red light and I feel the same. I also imagine it's less energy intensive?
It seems like most res lights are very inefficient with power. Although the photon energy is lower, so is your sensitivity to the light and I imagine you end up using a surprising amount of wattage to get a useable intensity. And personally I find that to be case that I can get away with a few lumens of white but need the brightest red setting to do anything. It doesn't trigger the brain like a white light will tho, so good at the end of the night.
Jesus Christ. You guys are stuck in the Afghanistan poppy war? We use green light now. Much better lumination visibility. Great for hunting and spotting 'targets'. Much lower chance of being spotted. Chads even use a stepless variable blue light to travel unseen. Red light is out.
Doesn't green ruin your night vision? Also deer can see green light
I’ve had better luck with red than other colors when it comes to working around cows or wild animals. If I need to be more discrete than a red light because of people, I’ll just use the PVS-14.
>I’ll just use the PVS-14.
Expensive though.. How are yours, Anon? Ive heard many of the used ones you can get have "spots" on the phosphorus that sorta give the appearance of dead pixels
it's how the rods and cones in your eyes react to the color, green shows up more but also lessens your night vision, stick with red, green does show up better in daylight though
picrel
this stuff, this exact brand (gear aid)
comes in a variety of colors. nylon patches. the main reason i shill it so hard is the adhesive is really good and i've had patches survive years and years of repeated washes. melt your puffy jacket by the fire? catch a bramble and tear your pant leg open? not a problem, the repair may as well be semi permanent and you can do it with a pocket knife or tiny scissors. its cheaper in stores than on amazog for me in america.
I have a knife made by that company that is pretty decent. I got it in one of those monthly subscription gear box deals, which I'm slightly embarrassed to admit. Huge waste of money and now I have a closet full of bullshit that I'll never use, but opening the boxes every month was so much fun. Like Christmas as child before Dad started drinking
i got lucky. my dad was a celebrity coke dealer and he overdosed while my mom was pregnant. one of those situations where he got pronounced dead but didn't die. he took it as a sign from above, quit using all drugs, and raised me christian. based dad.
Damn, anon. Im glad everything ended up good. I'll bet your Dad has some awesome stories too
What's your favorite PrepHole pc? Mine is Pic rel.
Prefer the CF-30 for build quality but the CF-31 just has better stats. Can play New Vegas on this one.
I just haul my desktop, monitor on the dash, console mousepad. New Tahoes have outlets in place of the lighters.
i got an x230
the best PrepHole laptop is dell's knock off of the toughbook. whatever the final model without a rubber keyboard is called. forgot which one.
old toughbooks are the coolest.
bullshit. the best outtop is a regular thinkpad 420
the panasonic and dell ruggedized laptops can be submerged and don't even need to be powered off. i used to refurbish toughbooks and sell complete ones locally & the parts on ebay back in the 00's when they were more relevant. part of my local demo i would let people shoot one with a bb gun and throw it off a building or out of a moving car. hardly ever had to replace the demo unit.
t420/x230/etc is pretty rugged and not a total shit-brick to carry around though. & better battery life.
holy fricking autism, what is the point of going PrepHole if you bring a fricking computer with you?
>here's a product you didn't even realize you needed!!!
Dang nobody sells these in my country and Amazon shipping costs the same as the item itself
>Dang nobody sells these in my country and Amazon shipping costs the same as the item itself
grab one on aliexpress/shopee/etc if you need cheap international shipping on one. they're all over those sites. its the same exact one as they sell on amazon.
Will I get cancer if I put my lips around a pocket bellows made of chinesium?
This is unironically why I never buy chinkshit that I will have to eat or drink from.
I made a mistake where I bought a "goetland" US army style mess kit but since I figured out the company has its headquarters in WINGWONG, China I don't wanna eat from it. It says it's 18/8 stainless steel but it's not like there's a real company guaranteeing for that.
i hope you understand... the pocket pillows on amazon and the pocket billows on aliexpress are the same pocket billows.
if you don't understand, search
"what is amazon fba"
"what is drop shipping"
dunno. its the exact same chinesium you were trying to buy on amazon or at your local outfitter store, just with one less middle man drop shipping it to you.
Who knows, not like you are going to be sucking on the thing 24/7 I doubt there is any toxic metal that they could use that would be cheaper than them just using stainless steel
Get one regardless. They're incredibly useful for starting and maintaining a fire.
Used Panasonics in the army. These pieces of shit never work. An LV241 will never let you down.
bandana for prefiltering water to get more life out of your filter.
>taking a computer with you PrepHole
>using your phone while PrepHole outside of an emergency or for just the camera
do anons really?
I prefer to use diesel to start fires
I'll just bring my old FM antenna.
