I work as an engineer there. I won't say in what category as it would probably give away who I am as the catagory groups are fairly small. As for my favorite tool, hard to go wrong with our pliers or 15-in-1 screw driver set. I use that thing quite often.
As far as quality of the tools I cant say forsure as Ive only been there less than 6 years. I believe the quality of the pliers has probably gotten better in that time as those are made in TX and their processes have gotten better.

That has been a long discussion internally. I don't believe they have a timeline for that at the moment. I dont work on that team but I know for a fact they have discussed that regularly.

Great star makes pretty decent stuff actually. Tough part about being an engineer is you dont have any say in where the products are made. Ideally Id love to have more stuff made in the US but ultimately the product would be too expensive for the consumer...

Because it's delicious!
It’s not SK engineering or designs anymore. The tools are all different, they didn’t simply offshore the same premium designs. And as soon as they released the new tools, they promoted them super hard with a bunch of new fancy graphics claiming 100 years of American heritage and shit, it was so gross. They paid for the name so they could sell mediocre Chinese tools to Americans who don’t know any better.
older klein tools are awesome I still have some from the very early 90s and they still work great. not sure of todays klein tools, you know nowadays everything is made cheap shit. but old tools from back in the day are pretty rock solid.. when companies cared about quality rather than cutting corners
Nah that was the old one, the grips starting to crack and peel at the bottom, electrical tape was sliding off the greasy handles, so JB Weld was the next step.
How does it feel that HD is dropping you like a hot potato?
That’s why I snagged the pliers wrench on clearance for $35. Only like 1/3 of the stuff was on clearance.
They're clamps. Finish carpenters will use them while they're installing cabinets. You can set the depth of clamp and then they work like quick clamps.
They’re just vise grips with a deep throat to clamp woodworking projects and such.

What are the globally sourced components in the new plier wrench?
Is Klein ending production of their USA-Made precision screwdrivers? They've just released a new line of Taiwan made ones that would seem to be a successor.
Why are the corners of the tips on the USA-made square bits milled down? Using those were the first time I've seen square bits cam out
>globally sourced components
This shit is even more vague than not having a COO on there. They need a damn label like the nutrition facts on food. Chinese handle dip? Chinese spring? Chinese steel throughout the whole thing? Everything made in China and then dipped and assembled here?

When is Great Star Hangzhou going to buy up your company and absolutely rape your legacy like SK?
Those frickers claimed they would continue to make US-made pro line tools but that doesn’t seem to be the case yet, anything US made is new old stock and the new Chinese tools are pushing real hard on Amazon to make people think it’s the same US company. It’s gross.

What was it like abandoning you dedicated employees in Illinois and Michigan and moving all manufacturing to that scab state Texas?
You haven’t made quality tools since M. Klein & Sons
No clue - have no been there that long.
Why are the tips of your Phillips drivers made from cheese?
>I believe the quality of the pliers has probably gotten better
We get issued Klein pliers at work (needlenose, lineman, dikes), because "m-muh MUSA".
Everyone ends up buying Knipex with their own money, because they actually last.

did you know they make different product lines for commercial and consumer use?

I think I have one of your cheapo 20 dollar multimeter units. It's my favorite out of all the ones I own. I don't deal with high voltage though; just automotive stuff.
I've never had any name brand nice tools. My wrenches and sockets are tekton. Most recent thing I got was some capri squeeze wire strippers. Fricking fantastic for working on small things where the old jerk strippers are a problem.
Klein tools have gotten me out of bad situations and continue to get me in the worst. Thank you for your continued support in making top dollar, made in USA tools thant Jank Industries can fabricate into mistakes that only the most deprived souls can imagine.
I once saw an electrician snap the tip off his Klein screwdriver, then grab another identical Klein screwdriver out of his toolbag and keep working. He wasn't even surprised.
Looks like SK. Wouldn’t be surprised if it were made by SK for Klein.
If it looks the same, I would snatch a repair kit soon because they might be hard to come by in the near future since Chzang Zhou HK Ltd or whatever the frick bought SK and gutted the brand to use the name on their Chinese tools.
There’s a stupid argument online, but looks like Klein still sells socket sets but it’s rebranded Taiwan stuff. Don’t think they ever made their own sockets/ratchets, they contracted them out and a round head ratchet like that made in the US only has a couple of possibilities.
Thanks, I guess I'll disassemble mine and measure/eyeball to match up a replacement.

Frick Klein Tools. Their multimeters had a major issue where if you touched the selector knob sides (stars on pic related) it would read any voltage as zero. I almost raw dogged a 220v circuit when my Klein read 0V
I wouldn't trust any meter not made by fluke. I've never had one break on me or fail, and you can get a 77-iv for a decent price so there's really no excuse
I use a Fluke 117 for work. But honestly, frick Fluke. The displays are complete shit where you cant see anything from an angle, fluke test leads are stiff and awkward, EVERYTHING is 3X overpriced, they divide commonly needed features across too many different meters, etc. etc. At my workbench i use Brymen. 1/3rd the cost, more features, generally higher resolution, all the quality of life features. Frick fluke, but yeah, i'll still be using it today.
to add. I did fix the issue by taking the multimeter apart and adding dielectric grease across the entire selector plate part of the circuit board. Even though i fixed it, i will never trust it again. They need to make the selector knob, and the post it pivots on MUCH stronger or the problem will persist.
Hyper Tough pry bars are made in ‘Murrica, have a strike cap, and are cheap as hell.
I’m on the fence about jumping on a Mayhew kit. I have a 3pc sef of those cheapo HF and VatoZone genetic guys with the black handle with red guards and the fricking handle slides around when you hit the shitty strike cap. I have pried pretty hard with mine though, worth the <$15 for a 3pc set for the use I got but I’m done with those.
I've got the dominator 58" and have literally hung my 270lb ass off of it and it barely flexes. The best pry bar I've ever had and would drop another $150 on it in a heartbeat if I ever lost it
My family has been a Craftsman family since 1927.
Your family sounds like a Mobius loop.
Got me a new impulse buy today!
Congrats on the troonywrench pliers. Maybe one day you'll realize your mistake and sell them and buy another pair of knipex like you should have.
>those brand new unused pliers
>disgusting cheeto-grease stained plywood table
Yep, it's a namegay
That's OSB and a tripgay

Stilletto and fiskars have never done me wrong
maybe not the best but its worth the money.
Considering the Irwin stuff is 1/3 the price, this is somewhat true.
Did you literally smear some rubber goop on the handles of your new Klein? Kek

Jesuz, with that many shit tool handles you’d think you’d have a can of plasti-dip somewheres eh?
What are the square shaped tools on the left of the guy's head used for ?
They're clamps. Finish carpenters will use them while they're installing cabinets. You can set the depth of clamp and then they work like quick clamps.
i use actual cabinet clamps, the only people i've seen are those working with metal.
They work well for the Kreg type jigs.

I unironically work for Klein Tools - our HQ is in Illinois. Ask me anything
What do you do there?
What's your favorite tool that Klein makes?
Do you think the quality of tools has decreased since the late 90s?
I'm not an electrician but I just love klein hand tools, you know what you're getting and it's always good

I snapped two of the four blades off a Phillips head Klein once. Only time that’s ever happened and Graybar swapped it out no questions asked.
Channel lock
Any topologists in the house?
yes, actually
so you can appreciate a Klein bottle opener as an opener for Klein bottles
My tenant died and one of the things he left was a Klein socket and ratchet set with a broken ratchet. Looks almost unused.
This thing. Suppose I can get a repair kit for it?

Amprobe exists, if you're spending your own money.
The one I posted was $160 on egay
sounds like you got a FRUKE
I didn't buy it, that was just an example
not even finding "Open Box" new ones on ebay US for anywhere near that price.

Maybe this guy is just a scammer. Granted it doesn't look like it comes with anything else, good test leads aren't that expensive.
