It's over Allybros.... Getting reports in right now that the attack on the 'Omaha' sector of the D-Day landing has been met with catastrophic losses. USA had all but two of their tanks converted to submarines and have lost 3,000+ and counting. I really think it is time we bow to the Great Golden Eagle and seek a peace deal. I wasn't told that we would be expericing these kind of losses attacking defensive emplacement! How they so incompetent? Why did we give them all this stuff if they're just going to lose it! I am writing to my Congressman MP Minister right now to get this stopped. We were lied to about the superiority of Allied equipment! Germany is just too strong! We're suffering so many losses and they suffer absolutely NONE!

they had no choice, omaha beach was right in the middle of landing zone and if it wasnt secured then they would have two seperate beachheads that could be flanked
and despite the perception that it was somehow a failure, a perception that seems to only ever exist within russians, it still managed to establish a beach head by the end of the day and the germans were too weak to try and take it back
casualties were overwhelmingly frontloaded in the first wave, casualties dropped off afterwards as naval gunfire got more accurate and more tanks landed and in the end it was 2000 out of a total of more than 10,000 committed
on the note of tanks, they had 60 tanks by the end of the day
while the general notion is that the DD tanks drowned leaving the infantry alone, thats really only half true
several more waves of tanks arrived via LCTs which helped support the advance and there was never a period where the infantry didnt have armor support

We should have reached a deal with Germany when they declared war on us and continued to send more oil to Japan after Pearl Harbor. Escalating will only bring needless death, especially for the axis. If we don’t concede we will find U-boats on our shores and Hitler in the white house.

I think I remember reading something along the lines of, mid to late war, amphibious assaults were actually I've if the most reliable types of operations. Not because they're not absurdly difficult and dangerous, but because when someone wanted to do it, they staged like, twenty or thirty times as many troops as defend the target. It was never really in doubt whether they succeeded but just how costly it would be, because of the amount of force being staged and brought to bear
