It's 1984, and you (plus a lot of other Oregonians) are pissed at Rajneeshpuram. You are arranging a small civilian militia to infiltrate, extract Rajneesh and Ma Anand Sheelah, and subsequently lynch them for bioterrorism and flooding the county with hobos (lol, Indian cult terrorism involves salmonella, a literal shitting disease).
What are you equipping with, keeping in mind that it needs to be readily available to 1984 civilians. Keep in mind also that Rajneeshi police are pretty well armed and have actual police training.
Me?
>M1 carbine
>Colt 1911
Classic setup, plenty available. Probably bring some Molotovs for the hell of it.

I think in that time period most of your average joes would only have hunting experience, so get everyone who does to act as marksmen covering a squad of vietnam vets with SP1s.

.38 revolver is fine. SMLE has a proven track record against Indians, so it's a good choice.

The only black Oregonian I’ve ever met was really nice. Although technically she was a California transplant (originally from Oakland of all places) so make of that what you will.

This would have worked about 15-20 years ago. Now you'd have to basically cut out the I-5 corridor

Knowing rural Oregon, I'm probably armed with a Model 94, a 1911, and a buck knife. I bought all of it at Bi-Mart along with everything else that I own.

    >it needs to be readily available to 1984 civilians
So basically any suppressed and full-auto of the era? MP5 SDs for the extraction team, AN/PVS-5s if we could get them, backup raid team with full auto CAR-15s and an m60, MG support group would also have flare guns if we could get the NODs and the night op needs to go loud. Overwatch with a pair of sniper-spotters using m40s or DIY equivalents.

Honestly, by '84 most our modern guns were there, they've just been upgraded little by little with tech and focuses on modularity since then.

Consider the price and how much the average rural Oregonian is gonna buy one, let alone find one.

Literally none of that was available. Full autos and suppressors were legal, but they were just as expensive as they are now and the specific stuff you're asking for simply wasn't being sold.

        >they were just as expensive as they are now
No they weren't. The full moron stuff is so expensive now is because the supply has been fixed since 1986. $200 for a tax stamp may have been more back then, but I don't think it was equivalent to $30-$40k that a transferable third hole AR lower goes for now.

          Anonymous

Even then full auto guns were significantly more expensive than regular stuff, and that's on top of the tax stamp. MAC 10s and stuff were cheap, but anything beyond that was costly.

Because stealing from national guard armouries is cheaper than buying your own gear

National guard did not have MACs
There might be still a few open bolt semiauto clones floating around, although the ATF had already banned them

The Covenant, the Sword, and the Arm of the Lord had a pretty good loadout imo
    >https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Covenant,_the_Sword,_and_the_Arm_of_the_Lord
    >The line infantryman carried a Ruger Mini-14 .223 Remington rifle. As in the early days of the United States Marine Corps, the squads were set up in four-man fire teams. One man in each fire team carried a Heckler & Koch Model 91 rifle in .308 caliber. These rifles had been modified via a technique that the organization sold to "brother groups," converting the rifles to an illegal selective fire weapon (either capable of firing single shots or fully automatic).
    >The members of the Elite "A" Team wore black clothing and they possessed some fairly sophisticated weapons, such as .22 caliber Ruger target pistols which were fitted with integral silencers, and several MAC-10 submachineguns in both 9 mm and .45 ACP, also with attached suppressors. These men trained in the covert aspects of military action and they were required to be the core of the defense initiative.

Honestly, as much as I believe in rule of law, due process, etc. sometimes you need to just pull back the police and turn a blind eye to armed citizenry dealing with a nuisance, especially one that has been using bioterrorism on them.

Tbh in an age with no internet and firearms training was for the military or fringe preppers, I can't imagine his guard knew frick all about combat. They'd probably hip fire those uzis in a sweeping motion out of cover like they saw in their favorite blood and guts era action movies and die

Again, many of the Peace Force went to an actual police academy and apparently graduated with pretty high marks, whatever that means for early '80s training standards.

Ah ya I forgot to include in my post that they'd be at police level training if that, which doesn't say much at the time. Cops weren't held to as high a standard in training then
