Let's be honest, 99.999% chance you're NEVER going to get to use your gun. You spend hundreds of dollars on a gun, holsters, etc, then THOUSANDS on ammo to practice, and for what?
In all the years ive been carrying, ive never even gotten to lawfully THINK about drawing my gun, let alone shoot someone.
Sometimes, in an attempt to trick fate, ill leave my gun in the car when I go into the gas station or something, hoping maybe SOMETHING will happen, because its the one time im not prepared... and nothing fricking happens.
Like maybe I won't have my gun, but I can at least tackle the bad guy or something.
When do I get my turn? When do I get to be hero or die trying? Life is so fricking boring.

also a related point, always carry pepper spray if you're going to go through the trouble of carrying a gun. If I recall correctly the odds of non-lethal force being used against you are 3x that of lethal force. So if you're going to go through the trouble of carrying a gun, you might as well through a thing of peppery spray in your pocket that your 3x more likely to be able to use than you will your gun.
I carry my gun because I like guns. After deploying to Syria in 2014-2015, and Afghanistan in 2016, I feel naked without a gun on me.
I really never want to hurt anyone, but I always need to be prepared. I was not prepared one time, and I could not respond fast enough to save my buddy's life. Always be prepared, but pray that nothing ever happens.

because shooting is fun and you're over exaggerating ammo costs. If you're not a youtuber getting B roll footage you don't need to do multiple mag dumps on a range trip. If you can shoot a string of 3 shots accurately, you'll be able to shoot a string of 6 shots almost as accurately. Unless you're practicing for a competition you don't need to be doing high round count training.

Colt King Cobra or Kimber K6XS are the best 6-shot .357 snubnoses. Most everything else will be 5-shot.
But my 2 cents on snubnoses - .357 is uncomfortable, verging on unweildy in such a small gun, especially the aluminum framed ones. No matter how much you practice, youre gonna flinch when shooting high pressure SD .357 loads out of a gun that weighs less than 20oz. Go for a .38spl, or at least just use .38spl in your .357 if the ammo camparability is important to you. Most of the .38's will be 6-shots, and there are more options out there like S&W and Taurus
Either way, snubnoses are a lot of fun and it's tremendously rewarding to get profficient with them since the skill curve is steeper than guns with longer sight radius& lighter triggers

I'm mil, forced to live in MD. Got my wear and carry before Bruen. Jog early in the morning before work and disparate youths will hide out near the trails I frequent, smoking weed and the like. Several times they tried chasing me down (I run faster though lol). I used to run completely sanitized until this, so now I keep a small .380 pistol and my permit in a fanny pack. I've drawn down on 5 youths doing this and they disengage. The other time was when I was with my 2y/o picking up some food for the rest of the family and as I'm strapping her into her seat all the hair on the back of my neck stood up and I looked back to see a guy blocking me in between the cars. Drew my Glock and he bolted. I called the cops on the trail stalkers before I started running armed and they basically laughed at me on the 911 line. So I don't consider the local police as any sort of asset and forced my wife to train too. When I was working nights for a short period there was also a string of carjackings so I requested an exception to policy from the Garrison to allow me to carry on base just so I wouldn't get in trouble for commuting armed and they denied it :(. I'd probably have to let myself get assaulted to get that approved and it'd only be on a temporary basis.

Reason 1: I work with animals. Mainly dogs. I've had to break up fights and I've been attacked by multiple dogs, and I've even had a fricking bull go apeshit on me.
Reason 2: My employees. I employ a couple women who make bad choices as far as boyfriends. I had one show up and act insane, i'll kill the next one that does so.
All of that aside, self defense is my god given right and I don't really need a reason other than "I feel like it" but I gave you two very good ones.

I've used my carry gun more than a dozen times. Only once for humans, but showing it was enough to get nogs to flee. I have usually and do now live in the deeper countryside. Coyotes and wild dogs are pretty common. Also, deer are in the yard when I pull up after work and those little shits are tasty. I'm not sure why you would want to put yourself through the trauma of legal trouble or the life and death scenario actually pulling your weapon would entail. However I can only speculate that you've never been in a real fight because you seem to be itching for something you don't understand. Train more and wish less.
