Wait it isn't AI generated? What the frick? It looks fake, it even has image generation artifacting.

Probably a CGI rendering for propaganda purposes. The CCP always wants to look perfect even if it costs them credibility.

How do you not know how a J-20 looks like?

No I do know but a few details of the image look like artifacting so I though
            >Oh this has to be an AI generated plane like the ones we had last week
            Confirmation bias I guess.

Too much tail. There's so much drag at the back of the plane the J-20 is overstable and doesn't want to turn quickly. Modern fighters are designed slightly unstable so when they turn they want to turn even more.

Compare that to the X-29. Very little going on on the tail. This makes the plane less stable and more likely to go into nearly uncontrollable flips and spins. There's a reason why the X-29 was experimental.

I was about to mention how obvious it was that it was AI due to having flaps on the front of the wing...then I saw that's how they actually do it, and I almost died laughing. Jesus christ, chang, you can't bootleg the laws of physics.

      >What are leading edge flaps
Idk if they're used on other fighters but you can have flaps on the front of the wing

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a modern fighter that doesn't have some kind of leading edge flaps or slats.

Yeah that's what I was thinking but never bothered to pay attention to if they're there or not so didn't want to make a statement I was unsure of.

        So the flaps droop

Same reason why other planes that can copy the concepts of what they're trying to emulate but not the execution of manufacturing or materials like the 57, they're both fat b***hes that have to compensate with thicker tolerances and heavier parts.

Canards stabilize. Hence maneuverability is lessened. The j 20 cannot turn very well unless it's at very slow speeds. It tends to shred itself in loops. it doesn't work as advertised.
Also with it's set up if it tries to move them it's stealth instantly goes away.

      >Canards stabilize. Hence maneuverability is lessened.
so how come other canard jets can be so nimble?

Completely different design. The J-20 is long, with the center of lift pretty far back. Canards d bring the center of lift forward, which increases manueverability, but it's not going to be enough to make the J-20 a dogfighter. My understanding is that while air superiority is one of their stated goals, it's more tuned to strike strategic targets like AWACS, tankers and command-control aircraft.

Sounds like they're trying to take lessons from the F-35

Exactly. It's designed to be a stealth sensor package and missile truck.

In a fight over Taiwan the US is reliant on carriers and the F-18. Trying to bring in other craft requires aerial refueling. These can mess with that. They can also go after platforms that help improve the effectiveness of missile defense for the carriers.

The J-20 isn't supposed to be shooting down fighters in dog fights but helping coordinate efforts to overwhelm fleet missile defense. You're going to have these small stealth missile boats firing missiles, subs firing missiles, longer range ballistics coming in fast, plane launched hypersonics, water hugging sub sonics, submersible drones, and torpedos all moving in from different angles to try to overwhelm the defenses or at least leave a room for the J-20 to pick of elements of the defenses until an attack works.

They're playing to their strengths and the fact that they just need to mission kill carriers to secure a blockade around Taiwan.

            >designed to be a stealth
It's not stealth. It's barely low observable

Seems more intended as an anti-ship attack aircraft than a fighter.
