Is it actually good? Is it special? Advantages? Disadvantages?
I mean it looks cool, provides good supression, it's very light and cheap.

it's an AK in a weird/bad caliber with a bad suppressor on it and a thumbhole stock
I like it
Why is it so bad? You'd think that a subsonic 250gr bullet would be at least decent.
The truth is that no one here really knows how it performs because they're effectively unobtainable. There's an American company working on replicas, but last I heard it's on hold until they can find a source for the ammo.
I believe brandon herrera did a vid on the gun and the cartridge was described as something similar to 8.6 blackout in it regarding recoil. However I haven't seen any hard data recorded on the round.
This isn't to say that it does, but it wouldn't surprise me if it performed similarly to 8.6.
Subsonic 9x39 was being imported by Wolf right up until Russian ammo got b&. There were just very, very few guns that actually shot it. Off the top of my head a few companies were making bespoke ARs for $3k and Krebs was making AKs chambered in it for similar prices. Needless to say it didn't really find a niche before shit dried up.
Ignore them, we have zero info, it's probably good at what's it's designed for which is close in suppressed fire.
Because it’s hard to hit shit in a combat environment with a bullet that drops like a 14 year olds‘ nuts
It's not an AK it shares no parts, with it. I bet you think a dragunov is an AK too, even though it's a short stroke. I mean the vss is literally striker fired, it's not an AK.
it's 300 blk with a worse suppressor than a sten
Damn you weren't kidding
It's quite possibly the most stylish firearm ever created, but yeah the other anons are right. Still want one tho.
you'll laugh when you see a cross-section of that suppressor
think they're the same for both ASval and VSS?
Wait, that's it? They couldn't make a more complex suppressor for a specialty gun? Frick now I want to see a remix of these using metal 3d printing.
>They couldn't make a more complex suppressor for a specialty gun?
It was the USSR in the 80s, not only could they not make it more complex, the Russians had to redesign it in the 90s to make it cheaper.
Thats probably decent since the ammo is already subsonic. The Maxim DSX has a very similar interior and they're supposed to be excellent for regular 5.56. IMO people have been conditioned to expect the insides of cans to be in elaborate patterns like a veinnetta cake, but its probably unnecessary for subsonic rifles.
>When a super cheap WW2 gun had a better suppressor than the internally suppressed gun built by "worlds second most powerful military" for its special forces
Just how long has Russian propaganda fooled us?
PSA should make these. Anyone complaining about the supressor design needs to remember it can be made better once we start making them.
Its fine for a niche weapon. Its seems to have been deployed as a standard weapon in the early invasion, which should never have happened, even if Ukraine wasn't as flat as a pool table. Doctrinally its equivalent to a suppressed SMG and is used in equivalent roles, with the added proviso of having some limited armor piercing capability. Not really the most optimized design, its become a meme to shit on the suppressor; but if it worked then I can understand why they saw no need to complicate it. The VSS basically hasn't seen any mechanical improvement since the late 80s, the SR3M is the most modern iteration of the family and its suppressor has twice the baffles, though they're still of the washer design.
How the hell would any of us know?
It's probably a good woods gun based on its heavy bullet, compact size, and quietness.
9x39 really only makes sense for swat/counter-terror use. it doesn't have super great armor penetration or range but it IS a beeg boolit so its definitely gonna have a good chance of dropping guys in one shot to the chest.
the problem is that it was used very randomly in ukraine, its a CQB weapon being used in WWII style farm field treeline/trench warfare so no shit its going to be suboptimal.
I get that this is a thread where we make fun of Russia's equipment and capabilities but the AS-VAL and VSS were remarkably forward-thinking when you remember it's literally 40-year-old soviet tech and from what we actually know about its combat performance (which is very little) it's supposedly highly-regarded within its specific design niche. Also some of the most aesthetic guns of all time.
It's also worth noting that, again, the guns in your photo are designs over 4 decades old and they've been iterated constantly in the meantime. Pic related being 2 much more modern iterations that seem to have addressed all the issues /k/ is crying about ITT. They're apparently much more commonly issued to federal police and antiterror units than they are for military operations, which again makes sense.
if its so fricking good lets see what it looks like when its California compliant, homosexual
If the Vikr or Val was in a non moronic caliber like 5.56 it would be better than the AK in almost every conceivable way, kind of like how the VZ58 is better than the AK in almost every way as well.
>250gr bullet
What the frick?
