Alien Pistol by Laugo Arms.
Looks pretty cool, but jesus christ its expensive. Is the core concept of making a handgun with a fixed barrel and top rail a good idea? Feels like its a great platform for using a larger barrel or some sort of brace system
Dunno, I'd have to see how reliable it is when the operator is shitting himself while trying to return fire
why would anyone operate with a comp gun?
If the core concept is inherently advantageous, why wouldn't they?
Yea I can't grasp how people don't get this logic. Comp gays run 3oz titanium BCG and they put down tens of thousands of rounds, more abuse than any military would do. Like military ain't the proving grounds, it's the fricking comp scene that's the proving grounds for reliability.
The comp scene doesn't run their guns in adverse conditions. When there is mud, sand, -13 degrees and heavy snow involved the requirements are quite different
At my matches there is plenty of sand. It's wise to have a magazine brush in your kit to clean the sand out of mags between courses of fire.
what part of it design do you think will compromise its reliability, compared to any other handgun?
Neither will you at any point in your life
Wrong.
I live in Alaska
google the Ross Rifle
This. As a Canadian I can tell why competition shooter should stay far far away from military weapons procurement.
The Ross MkIII* could have been a great design, but WW1 had damaged it's reputation beyond repair as a mainline rifle.
I have this thought regularly about a number of military deficiencies. But a core idea to remember is the level of gun intelligence. A competitive shooter is doing it for fun. They like it, they are spending money on it. They burn free time on it.
How many 18yo straight out of high school who joined because they didn't want to go to school or get a 'real' job, are willing to actively spend copious amounts of money and time to learn about shooting? Are they going to autistically maintain guns and only shoot them on the days they want? Comp shooters tune bullet weights, powder charges, primers and brass for the results they want. They tune springs, buffer weights and bolt weights. I'm in maybe one of the highest military densities in the world. Everyone around here seems to be more concerned about their nicotine and bac.
I can't tell if this is a meme or not but competition shooting has a huge influence on military training
Some decent footage up on forgotten weapons. I think he even does a match or two with it. It's a really cool idea.
he has constant malfs due to his lefty thumbs-high grip bumping the slide lock
maybe ian's left eye dominant or something but I never understood why shooting left handed is so important to him I even kinda like having my stronger arm up front
There are some people that just always need to have their special snowflake needs met.
Eye dominance is more or a pain to deal with then stronger arm, can just add a few more reps for that if needed. I have sympathy for people there, I've got that stigmatism and non-normal eyes make lots of gun stuff tougher.
he's actually left handed and left eyed
If you have to ask /k/ if a gun is a meme, it's a meme.
It's a nifty competition gun, I've seen a few of them jam tho. Not worth the price tag
Low bore pistols have been a thing in target shooting since the 60s. The Lego is an update on a classic Russian target pistol which I am forgetting right now, in 9mm for modern shooting sports.
It appears to be a superb pistol. Muzzle flip is next to nothing for example.
The people buying the Alien aren't worried about the price. Hopefully Laugo licenses it out to HK or Sig to make a more mass market version.
>classic Russian target pistol
IZh-35M aka KSP 200
nice direct blowback .22 bro
Stripping off the autism bloat on the grip would make this into such a pretty cyberpunk gun, as with most competition guns.
Make the autism pretty enough and it makes the gun look like some archaic relic gun wielded by cyberpunk nobility.
I understand the utility of these grips but holy frick they are so god damned ugly
I almost want to start buying competition guns like this and just putting normal fricking grips on them for the better of humanity
>KSP
>laughs in P7
What does that even mean?
>doesn't know what a P7 is
>doesn't understand the simplest of memes
You must be new here.
I want one.
>bore above web
>lowbore
nah
The key of the Alien is not just the low bore, but having a fixed upper surface to mount optics that doesn't move along the slide or whatever mechanical process happens, with the objective of making it so the shooter has an easier time staying on sights during shooting
it's a technically perfect gun which makes total sense no matter how you look at it, same feelings I feel when thinking about ARs
larger barrel or braces would defeat the purpose - it is created to be held as a usual handgun, and be a usual full-size handgun
IAN LOVES IT! So it must be good.
How exactly does the position of the slide contribute to the round going from magazine into the chamber?
Meh if your buying one for anything outside competition then yeah its probably a meme.
>In b4 SIG or Ruger rips off Laugo
>And guntube jacks off like the knockoff is the second coming of Christ, a porterhouse steak and an excellent blowjob all rolled into one
>porterhouse steak
porterhouse is a Black person-tier cut, anon
Hey, don't talk shit about porterhouse
it may be a bit of a meme cut but it can still be a good steak if you know what you are doing
everyone wants the part with the biggest filet mignon but what they fail to realize is that the first 3-4 inches or so of the short loin are not as nice as the next 5-6 due to a large piece of silver-skin running through the strip-loin from the sirloin that tapers off into the fat cap as you get closer to the rib end
what you ready want is the steaks that start after that silver-skin tapers down, they will still have a decent sized fillet but the strip won't be ruined by a huge ribbon of crap running through it and as a bonus it tends to be a bit more marbled
think about this before you buy your next porterhouse/tbone steak and if you heed my advise I promise it will be a more pleasurable eating experience with more meat yield
>guntube jerking off Sig instead of claiming that it fires when you look at it too hard and that they're personally stealing money from your bank account to fund their military contracts
lol
lmao
I second that, it's a meme like this, nobody will operate with a $5k race gun, but building a braced/PCC/sub on this tech would be amazing.
Supreme omega meme. I did some calculations once and found that a glock with a frame mounted optic weighs less and costs less. If you want a non reciprocating optic on a pistol, this is the way to go.
>high-bore tilting barrel, high mount optic screwed into plastic, flashlight as a counterweight
A glock with a comp, RDS and light weighs less an an alien while recoiling less and costing less. It's like the difference between a Porsche 911 and a Chevrolet Corvette Z06.
but it remains a high-bore tilting barrel, high mount optic screwed into plastic, flashlight as a counterweight gun
I'd say it's the difference between Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and your uncles tuned shitbox with a custom exhaust and a comically large spoiler
The fact remains that it performs better in every conceivable way. Also you get a free light.
very ugly
Shut the frick up, Ian. Non reciprocating optics on pistols aren't even a good thing. The movement of the slide keeps the open emitter clear of debris. You would have discovered this if you kept the bloody optic on the pistol when you did the mud test.
Have you ever tried shooting carryoptics in a match versus a non-reciprocating dot? It makes a performance difference, and sperging about needing to clean it occasionally is the same as b***hing that a PSG1 isn't a brush gun for deer hunting
I know glock Black folk are delusional but holy shit
>replaces the barrel, trigger, slide, magwell, mag release, slide release, sights
Glock Perfection
>Still cheaper than a lugo alien
>You have a whole extra gun's worth of spare parts
Perfect indeed.
>zero shifts ten yards if you just touch mount with finger
Jesus frick that looks so disgusting I want to claw my eyes out.
Why are glockgays such insufferable morons? It's not like glocks are terrible or anything they're fine average guns yet on /k/ you see shot like this.
they need to justify the fact that they spent thousands of dollars on turning an average gun into an average race gun
Nothing said about the glock was wrong, though.
It's awsome technically but it doesn't really fit into any USPSA open. It's not competitive with 9mm major / 38 super 2011 pistols with comps. I guess it's cool if you want to shoot limited division?
>any USPSA open. It's not competitive with 9mm major / 38 super 2011 pistols
That's literally its entire purpose. It was designed around target pistol accuracy but with 9mm and optics for IPSC/USPSA
Right and how many are using it. So..
its unobtanium right now so you're point is moot
It can't be used in the IPSC Production Optics or USPSA Carry Optics divs and that was supposed to be the draw for dropping $5k on a gun for what is otherwise an incremental improvement on what shooters already have, have broken in, tuned, and practiced heavily with.
Honestly, it is a meme gun really, but its exclusion from those divs is pretty bullshit. This is the issue with all shooting sports, hell any sport derived from combat, they inevitably end up being about playing the rules even when they're supposed to be "practical"
>drop 5k on a gun to flex on boomers, only to be wienerblocked by other boomers and their silly rules
kek
>IPSC
Huh? The Alien was on the ISPC list like the day after it dropped and I can't imagine USPSA has a problem with it either, it was designed to hit their "production gun" specs
At that point just use a bolt system like the ruger mk 2-4
How long till the affordable clones come out?
Probably whenever their trademarks and patents expire.
And I'd be hesitant for the sole fact that it seems just dimensional accuracy dependent enough that any half-assed milling machine operator or setup is going to push out a shitty half-priced version of it.
Laugo is keeping it tight because they're low production, high QA. I don't have high hopes for anyone pushing it through with cost effectiveness being priority.
>Probably whenever their trademarks and patents expire.
Trademarks have zero to do with it. Can't trademark function (which is good since trademarks never "expire", they can only be abandoned or genericized). They won't have any significant patents either, fixed barrel handguns date way back, low bore too. Yes they can patent specifics about their implementation and that's fine, but nothing is stopping someone else from doing other fixed barrel or low bore handguns on their own. An actual pure 100% clone would certainly have to wait until any design patents are gone but it's not an impediment to innovation.
Meme target pistol
Even Ian readily admitted it's not suitable for combat or defensive use in the reliability test videos. It turned into a jam-o-matic that wouldn't even cycle more than one round on it's own as soon as any significant amount of mud or debris got into the moving parts.
It looks like le cool ebin Titanfall gun and is really good for minmaxed IPSC shit because that's what it was designed for. Beyond that it's simply an inferior choice.
>It turned into a jam-o-matic that wouldn't even cycle more than one round on it's own as soon as any significant amount of mud or debris got into the moving parts.
Huh? There was one video about the dirt, and it did very well after they've got a round into the chamber, and another one about sand, where it did fail, but only because its magazine has died. It's LESS mechanically complex than a glock.
>5k
>to start
Most definitely
>Is the core concept of making a handgun with a fixed barrel and top rail a good idea?
I've got a Maxim 9, which is a fixed barrel delayed blowback, fixed optic though still a sliding rail. Still pricey (though I only paid $1k new, there was a point last year and a half or so where they were super fricking cheap). Doesn't have the low bore of the Alien, but it does have an integral suppressor which somewhat compensates for the angular momentum.
And I fricking love it so I'm going to go with yes. Sweetest shooting 9mm I've ever used, damn accurate, manufacturer rated for +P+ ammo. The basic idea of a fixed barrel is clearly solid, low bore can't hurt, and if it had a fixed rail across the whole top I think that'd be a rad improvement.
Alien itself of course is pure comp at the pro level, so all the tolerances are super tight, it's small batch, etc. Obviously that puts it into super pricey territory, but someone could easily do a very good fixed barrel hg for <$1k msrp. I actually kinda hoped that'd be SilencerCo, they've been working on and showed demoes of a non-NFA M9 which looked really fricking good and promising, everyone who tried it hands on said they loved it. But they seem to have put it on the backburner unfortunately. Somebody is going to run with this at some point though, only reason we don't have lots of them already is laziness and profitgrubbing by entrenched players.
Goddammit I've want one of those for a while, everything integrally suppressed is the bees knees
It's awesome, below 136dB even for supersonic, absolute zero gas leaks ever, more compact. Frick suppressors being on the NFA, we should have tons and tons of great integral options not one or two once in a blue moon that stay super niche. The sheer brutal indeterminate wait deters most people though, if they're going to go to the trouble for a can they want one they can put on lots of guns which I understand (as I approach 6 months on an eform 4).
I'm glad I got it though particularly at like 40% off. If you do ever get one you might want to replace the striker/trigger spring like I did lower the pull a bit though.
+P+ isn’t a real rating anon, don’t kaboom your nice gun
>+P+ isn’t a real rating anon, don’t kaboom your nice gun

pic related anon
“Rated up to +P+“ is meaningless to say though since it’s not a defined SAAMI spec. Bubba’s pissin’ hot loads might still kaboom your gat
Anon your autism is talking here. It's not meaningless, SAAMI isn't everything and we're talking manufacture ammo not bubba. +P is 38.5k, but NATO pressure is all the way up at 42k. I don't think any actual commercial manufacturers go over 44k. A +P rated gun will be proofed at about 50k. If they're proofing the Maxim at 53k like I remember reading that's good enough for me to feel confident in using anything off the shelf like Underwood, Federal, Remington or Winchester. The +p+ 90gr screws for example are 40k psi. That isn't going to cause any trouble.
thats a hot piece of 45acp lead
Also effectively even if it's not SAAMI +P+ is 40k-45k PSI. If they're proofing the gun with 30% margin that's no problem to guarantee even at the high end vs +P. With a completely fixed barrel the overall beefyness it was probably a gimme for them, though they remind users that it'll need more cleaning/lube and wear faster obviously. Means I don't have to think twice carrying +P+ screwdrivers though, even if I use regular pressure for most training/plinking.
fellow autistically niche gun owners rise up
Beautiful anon. Though I might slightly take the edge in autism with my silly sight setup including that sro shield I needed to take to a machine shop for some customization of. Great guns though. I'm waiting on my next rifle can still, order in March, fricking ATF hasn't even gotten through February yet.
>we're aiming for less than 90 days with eforms guiz :^)
god damn it, looks like getting my rifle can is literally going to take longer then the Maxim 9 did on paper!
The luago alien is really nice but I'm not sure what uspsa division it would fit in. Despite the price people in uspsa would buy it because there are a lot of expensive 2011s like staccato, nighthawk custom, sv infinity, atlas...etc. but I haven't seen analien
>. Is the core concept of making a handgun with a fixed barrel and top rail a good idea?
Yes.
RDS on pistols is new black.
Stationary mount is vastly superior.
Lack of such mount is what holding down RDS for pistols.
mostly not a meme but some parts are more custom then needed. entire top could be picatinny rail for example so that any standard thing could be used instead of having to be all custom.
picatinny is heavy
Make it out of titanium. Benefit of even lower felt recoil too! Also lift weights.
1. just use aluminum
2. weight and size are bad
>2. weight and size are bad
Wrong. This isn't a pocket gun for CC.
It's a meme.
Holy heroin, Batman!
>wristlet
Opinion discarded.
I think I remember when you bought that- how's it shoot after all the talktalk?
looks like a great gun for bear defense out hiking
when did the alien come out again? last year, or 2020 or something like that? if so not gonna lose hope someone will be inspired and go down market, takes years to do a good new gun so if someone started on release mayb e in another few years. hope this decade is an interesting one.
