They plan is to build up thru the winter so they can counter next spring. Who knows if that will work.

      Anonymous

Ah yes because Spring pushes worked out so well for Russia last time.
They have the whole of Autumn of muddy shitty ground till the frozen ground Winter months to build up stock after Russia gets bogged down again in a few months.
Though arguably both sides being stuck to roads could actually be beneficial for Ukraine's more accurate artillery especially if Russia continues to be moronic and is still overly aggressive.
I'm assuming they wanted to keep severodonetsk through then so Russia had less of a solid defensive area to hold, but ah well not everything works out.
Any major offensive that doesn't involve line collapses is likely gonna be in Winter or summer if it's conventional.
Though arguably with good MLRS support they could cut off entire swathes of Russian held areas from being resupplied, and the massed infantry/drone warfare are more likely effective during those boggy months, so who knows.

The west so far has only delivered only 1% of pledged material. Ukr has no choice but to wait and defend.
Getting a sufficient buildup of men and arms to go on the offensive, without suiciding them like Russia does, is going to take 6months minimum and that's only if the west delivers the equipment, which is likely to be attempted to wriggle out of.

But then since Russia is killing itself so fast, it may defeat itself and the Ukrainians can push just with their minimally supported infantry.

9X was 2003, 120 is 1992. Pretty old but the russians are down to soviet stock so it should hold up alright.

        Anonymous

Do you realize that both AIM-120 and AIM-9X has gone thru multiple block upgrades since entering service? In case of AIM-9X seems like they have reserved new letters for further bigger upgrades, but AIM-9X block 2 entered service in 2015 and block 3 should enter service this year.

I am pretty sure, like with a lot of the shit they're getting sent, it's not the fully upgraded version

but like other anon said, russia is using old soviet slavshit anyway, so it's still superior. "an m16 from 2003 vs. a fricking SKS" is a good analogy in terms of small arms

            >I am pretty sure, like with a lot of the shit they're getting sent, it's not the fully upgraded version
Of course they are mostly going to send in missile inventory from older end of stock piles, but implication that those are obsolete missiles borderline absurd as system still under constant development. Notable exception might be brand spanking new ARMRAAM-ER's as that gives the system substantial range increase.

They are, the problem here isn't with the politics, it's with the fact that the systems need to be actually produced beforehand.

I remember reading a few weeks ago that expert opinion was that Ukraine needed 500,000 shells to match what Russia was doing in the eastern front.

I guess this is America telling Putin that we can outspend him for as long as he wants to keep this war going. If we outspent the Soviet Union we can probably outspend the Russian Federation probably.

A lot probably don't want to get mentioned. Possibly due to internal politics, possibly due to fears of Russian retaliation, as we've seen Russia do to Germany by cutting off its gas by 60% after it endorsed Ukraine's EU candidacy and the Pzh2000ks arrived.

    >People ITT are unironicly suporting the ruscists.
You guys don't know the Russian like I do. You have not faced the Russians I did. You didn't have to let toxic russianism enter into you body through your pores, ears, and nostrils like I had to.
I was an exchange student studying in Moscow for a year. I have met thousands of Russians and all of them disgusted me. They smell of booze, they don't wash themselves (it's too cold – they bring up the excuse), they are too loud, uneducated, and incredibly racist. I had to live in that hellhole for a year, so I'm intimately familiar with Russian racism.
You might ask, "but how can a Russian be racist towards a white American as yourself?" but you wouldn't believe the things I've endured. These toxic pigs continually reminded me of my nationality ("hey, yankee boy! come here, yankee boy!"), treated me as a second class exchange student ("you have to learn Cyrillic if you want to pass this class!"), mocked my traditional cuisine and eating habits ("why are you eating a hamburger with your hands, what are you, an albino monkey?"), continually called me "too effeminate", and violated my private space on a regular basis. Apparently for these Russians touching (hands, shoulders, etc.) and slapping (back, butt, forehead, etc.) of others is considered "normal", and me reporting them a dozen times for sexual harassment to the dean amounting to nothing.
I FELT CONTINUALLY RAPED AND OTHERED BY THESE SAVAGES.
So don't get me fricking started about Russians and their ways. Staying there for a hellish year made me realize that all the horrors that came from Russia, the gulags, the Holodomor, Stalin, Putin, etc. are merely natural expressions of their genetic code.
I started calling them "homosexual stalinicus", because whatever race I'm in (homosexual sapiens) they have no part of, not an ounce of DNA do I share with these savages.

I lived in Rīga, Latvija for a decade. Ran my own business, traveled extensively through Estonia & Lithuania. I worked & lived with Russians every day for ten years, I had contracts with them ... every single one of which they breached in one way or another. They are all psychopathic criminals, bred into their genetics.

My family migrated from Ukraine to Germany before the Napoleonic Wars, most of them murdered by Russians as they fled. They were native Ukrainians, mixed with Lithuanian and Swedish blood. Later, they returned to their homeland around Lviv & Lutsk about the time the U.S. finished its Civil War. They brought back German family members and children, tried to find their historic homes and reestablish.

In 1920 almost all of them were murdered and driven from their homes, again, by Russians. Some were abducted and sent to Moscow (my grandmother), others fled to Poland and Germany. Again. The rest vanished from the Earth as if they had never existed. In the mid 1920s, my grandmother escaped to Poland, and then to Germany where some distant relatives helped her find a life.

And then the Russians came to Berlin, where she was almost killed by th erapings she received from Russians. She was lucky enough to be found by Americans, who helped her find her children and granted them refugee status to resettle in the U.S.

Today, our family is thin, but two of our sons have returned and fight today in the Ukraine Foreign Legion. Others have returned to provide other support, two of them doctors.

You cannot imagine how well I know Russians. It is outside your comprehension. And what's left of our family will not rest until as many Russians as possible fertilize the land of Ukraine.

This kind of AT isn't just against tanks. In addition to working just fine against IFVs and the militarized trucks you see the potemkin republics lug around, it's also stuff like the German MATADOR that doubles as anti-fortification and urban wall-breaching launchers.

      UKRAINIAN
      BRIDGES

      Anonymous

45 ton maximum weight tolerance on Ukrainian bridges. Weight of T-64/72/80/90 = 45 tons. Conclusion: T-64s and T72s can pass Ukrainian bridges just fine.

Weight of M1Abrams/Leopard2/etc = 55+ tons. Conclusion: They can't pass most Ukrainian bridges without said bridges collapsing.

This fact multiplies every logistics issue that's already present: No domestic production of spare parts, no trained repair specialists that know how these tanks work, no operator crews. So, in addition to the tanks themselves, Ukraine would need to receive plenty of bridgelayers, recovery variants and other logistical vehicles. If Ukraine only receives a dozen or so western tanks, it leaves Ukraine in an awkward space where it can't really afford to lose them due to the political impact that a photo of a destroyed western tank could have, can't afford to repair them because it can't afford to relegate the few repair crews it has working on its existing tanks already, and can't afford to train more technicians just for these vehicles because there are just too few. Too few tanks, and Ukraine can't afford to use them, lose them, or invest the few resources it has into establishing a logistics chain for them.

As such, in order for Ukraine's investment into any western tank force to be worth it, Ukraine would need to receive at least a hundred western MBTs. In addition to those, it would need to receive dozens of bridgelayers, recovery units and logistic trucks, which would likely bring the shipment up to well over 200 vehicles. That can also easily require a thousand or more crews and specialists to be trained to man and maintain them. Then it would need to prepare supply, ammo and spare part depots all over the country.

That is a massive endeavor. Transporting so many tanks and vehicles into Ukraine would be a challenge all on its own, doing it covertly is almost impossible. So, Russia would know that there's a major tank force and may just do even stupider shit than usual.

As much as I want to see these big b***hes in the open fields of Ukraine trading blows with Russian T80s and T72BVMs the logistical nightmare these would be would offset any of the strengths they provide. Frick just getting enough aviation fuel for the turbines would be a task with an already stretched supply chain being used for Artillery. A better solution would be to whip out the M60 stocks and trade upgraded Turkish M60 AMBTs for Abrams and send those to Ukraine. The power plant on the M60s would be much easier to fuel and or service and the upgraded optics and fcs would be enough in combination with the 105. That or give Ukraine the M1128 Stryker fleet to use.

Read the first two paragraphs, read all of it. That doesn't equate to "losing thousands of troops a day".

Secondly, yeah, that is how it works when they aren't reporting for duty like they are obligated to. It's a system, they prioritize the former-military, aka reservists, over brand new recruits. Of which they ARE processing, the correct way. Again, they are not grabbing randos of the street.

No U, moron. Frick your word games. He said "losing thousands of troops a day", verbatim. What does that mean? Deaths? 100% false, no source says this. Casualties? Also false by his own source. There is no scientific basis for x4 or x5 wounded per kill count, it's a vague, general, rule of thumb. 500-600 would be on the worst days, 60-200 would be on the better days. On the worst days, you would have a small point by 'estimating' ~2000 casualties in a day based on his 'method'. But we know that cannot be a constant. Many wounded are also back on the front in days or weeks due to modern medicine and medevac procedures, but there is also no real method to estimate this. For any that are counted as casualties one day and back another, did they 'lose' them?

It can last for decades. I'd say, it can last for a minimum of 5 years, but it'll be more because Russia won't stop delivering footage of its various war crimes, meaning that Ukraine can keep itself in the headlines pretty much indefinitely. Which means that the populace will continue to be reminded of Ukraine, meaning that the political will to help Ukraine will remain. Russia is the kind of nation that makes it very easy to hate it the longer it stays in public view.

          >How many Ukrainian insurgencies were there in Crimea which we are made to believe is a deeply Ukrainian core territory
          Several, back in 2014.
None of them were successful AFAIK because the population of Crimea is ethnically mostly Russian (it wasn't always this way, but Stalin forcibly displaced the original Crimean ethnicities into Central Asia and replaced them with Russians from the Russian Soviet Republic in the 1940s). Same with the Donbass, only there were no Crimean Tatars replaced, but rather Ukrainians who died of starvation and had to be replaced by Russians.
And the reason Crimea is still Ukrainian territory is because we cannot allow people like Putin to use the consequences of the policy of mass deportation and genocide by starvation to manipulate the borders of countries in the 21st century. Because if we do, things will become very brazen very quickly.
And the Russians in Crimea should go frick themselves and use that long bridge of theirs to relocate to Russia - while they both still exist.

They were still a fair number of ethnic ukrainian in Donbass. Most of them spoke both russian and ukrainian.
But most of them left or were intimidated to leave. Almost all the shaktar donetsk club supporter were pro ukraine for example.

Ukraine can fight for approximately 10 more years with the population it has. Vietnam had less numbers than that, and they lasted for 35 years in almost constant warfare against the Japanese, then the French, then the USA before finally coming out on top. After which they beat the Chinese that tried to conquer them while they were exhausted.

In 1915 british forces already lost their whole prewar army if we go by numbers.
Russia struggles to take some towns that nobody ever heard of. Ukraine has strategic depth they can keep this up for a while same shit happend in ww2.

        Vatnig channel 1 level Hopium,

Neither Russia nor the West will economically collapse before the war is over. Even if high energy driven inflation will spark a recession, a state has 3 priorities that are unquestionable and the rest is optional. Security is one of those 3. Russia not winning in a war of aggression to redo borders is non-negotiable.
Wars don't end until you take the capital and raise a flag above the Reichstag. Russians will bleed Ukraine dry of money and men, and keep it on Western life support Yooks make Russia turn to T52s and soldiers who joined for the pay because they can't feed their families at 30% unemployment.

No one will give up because they don't have money. They give up when they don't have a choice.

Heavy weapons. Like the anon above said Ukraine has plenty of enthusiastic men waiting to be trained, but they dont have the arty or vehicles to push. That might change with western aid.

Ukraine has several divisions worth of troops on the belaruse and moldovan border also in odessa since they expected the russian invasion there
They are undergunned since the best stuff is in donbass and down south
They need heavy weapons to finnaly break russia.
Nato didnt expect russia to be so bad so they didnt send and trained ukrainan forces on heavy weapons since day 1.

Pretty sure "tanks" is a misnomer. France pledged to deliver APCs and the press and politicians reported it as tanks.
