If it can cut aluminum or steel, it can cut ductape.

You need to grind that shit down. I'm sure you have a Dremel or angle grinder

Trash containers regularly have broken glass, drug needles, dead animals, rotting food, rat poison, tin can lids, metal shavings, leaking batteries and whatnot. Does he think someone sorts it with bare hands?

Recyclable steel shouldn't go in the trash
Also nobody is pawing through trash with their hands, garbage bins are all loaded by machine and dumped at the landfill.
Trying to be conscientious but to no effect. Just another moronic redditor I'm afraid to say.

Hahaha, there's a dude at work who goes through the trash with his bare hands to pull out bottles and shit.

That sums up my thoughts about the sentiment as well. A razor blade or saw blade is statistically one of the least dangerous things at one of these processing facilities. These people assume that the trash is being hand sorted and that all of it is "neat" household trash and not a lot of shit that comes from demo site that was just wrecked by an excavator and scooped up into a dumpster. At least at the facilities that I have been to in person, the sorting process is very hands off, where shit gets dumped out of the trucks, fed into a giant shredder that can shred an engine block, then fed through an automated sorting system to remove metal before finally being compacted and sent to the actual landfill.

Should be going to the scrap yard, not into general trash. And who throws away blades if they're still sharp?
    Waste on waste on waste

This. Someone should find that homosexual and shame the frick out of them for not recycling. Maybe they'll off themselves from all the online bullying.

Imagine throwing away a nice piece of high-speed steel instead of using it for your own tooling.

Also this. Saw blades are decent steel, why wouldn't you save that and cut something out of it? I've sen people make knives out of them. Would make good scrapers too.

Based scrapper. I can get maybe 2 cents for that blade if I wait until the price is high.

Material such as that is sorted with an electro magnet, not human hands. This is a stupid post.

maybe where you live that's the case, but where i live (at least my city's trash in Sofia, Bulgaria) is being processed (including by hand) sorted and recycled
only a small portion of it goes to the landfill or getting burned as fuel

The rest goes to the rivers or are burn for heating houses, giving Sofia air such a sweet smell during the winter

They aren't high-speed steel, probably 1018 or some basic shit like that. Still a perfectly usable flat cut blank for something else though.

          Anonymous

I doubt many are 1018 or similar. All of the ones I've used are at least hardened. Probably something cheap, but still heat treatable, like 1045.

I collect metal trash until the local gypsies come to my neighbourhood to buy and carry the trash away. It saves me the effort to transport the stuff.

      Anonymous

Yeah around here I just pile the metal stuff near the street close to my garbage can and the tweakers will inevitably come evaporate it within the week. They're faster than the garbage service if the weather is nice.

I throw my old razor blades in a jar full of salt water, rusts them out nice and good. Yes, stainless steel razor blades still rust. It's not so much that i worry about slicing up the garbage men, but i just don't want to cut myself in case a razor slashes through the garbage bag and i step on it or something.

As far as circular saw blades, they're really not sharp enough that they're going to instantly cut anyone who handles them. But if you're super worried about it, leave them outside for a month, that'll rust up the blades dull eventually.

  25. 4 months ago

One, who is just sticking their hands in a trashcan to be at risk of getting cut? Two, if im throwing a blade out, it implies that it's dull, so it's not going to slice you like a nice new blade could. Instead it would be a nasty jagged cut, but that'd require a little bit of force

Get a green wheel and resharpen them if they still have carbide left. I do mine all the time. Mark the first one with a marker so you know where you started. Easy
