Is there a reason I can't just cut down the oak tree in my yard and use the wood to provide additional framing to a sagging floor in my house?

Yes, that's not the correct way to repair your floor.

Surely my chain saw could cut through any protection a tree could muster.

I am aware it would need to dry, but approximately how long would that take? is this a couple weeks or a couple years?

      The tree could be protected

I already have a permit to cut it down, its just a matter of if i can use the wood myself or not. If not its just going in the firewood pile

If you're making 2x12's or whatever then they will be ready to use in a few months. If you're making thicc ass beams then you might want to let them dry for a year or two.
        Depends on the climate too.

It's one year per inch. Since you'd want something thick for framing a floor, that's not gonna happen anytime soon.
Also I kinda morally object to someone that clearly has zero clue cutting down an oak tree to make something with it that very likely won't work

The tree already needs to be cut down you tree hugging Black person, the purpose of the question is asking if i can recycle it or not

If it's your house and you have a sagging floor, then I don't see any reason why you couldn't do what you're thinking. Anything is better than just letting it get worse

How big is this tree anyway? I know a guy with a big band saw that cuts trees into slabs or whatever they call em, you could prolly make enough money selling those to buy some plain ol 2x6s for your floor joists. Or just sell off the tree to a guy who is into that shit. Or sell the wood off to guys into BBQing, or for firewood, or whatever other shit

But yeah, cut that fricker into roughly 2x6s and use them, I'd do it just to see how it works out

the local israelites probably made it illegal through copous amounts of 'evniromentar regubations xD'

if i want to cut down a tree on my property, i have to first inform the county, after they approve me using my own property, I then inform every neighbor that i am chopping down le tree so that their fee fees do not hurt and so they arent scared by the noises and so they can have enough time to file a formal complaint about me doing things with my own property if they disagree with the chop chop.
