M855A1, second to left?
I'd argue that one is as good as it gets until we change calibers. Very flat, very good wound channels, all the issues were ironed out about 5-6 years ago. M855 has trickled out unless you're a reservist. Even around 2018 I remember seeing guys in boot with mags full of it
Against poly and steel, yes. Penetration is noticeably improved against barriers and rolled steel.
But what most people care about is the terminal effects.
It doesn't have a lead core that tends to throw off the center of mass within the projectile, as M855 does. Accuracy is better. Projectile is longer and pointier, leading to a better BC and more energy retained at range.
The neck was reduced considerably vs M855. The bullet frags beautifully barely in the target, while M855 was known for going straight through the target without tumbling or fragging at longer distances or through short barrels.
In every sense except parts life and cost the A1 is a massive improvement.
How much increased wear on parts? Anything on the market which could handle it better?

if the army invested in adjustable gas or even just smaller gas block port holes the problem could be mitigated to an extent
most of the issue is just extra wear on the extractors and other moving parts, which you aren't wearing out. The gas rings are probably the exception.

There's only so much you can do with ammo over SAAMI pressure spec, while still following the TDP for the original rifle.

M855A1 hasn't been over SAAMI spec in almost a decade
58000 PSI is hot but still 5k from pressure max
M855 was still 55000 PSI
Not really, all three of these rounds aren't likely to penetrate any armor you'd be hoping for.
Yes morons, I know M193 under 100 feet can pen level III steel plates, but the people you're worried about when it comes to armor are probably gonna all be using level 4 ceramics anyways.
For close in defence, whichever is cheaper, terminal and external performance <100 yards is essentially the same
If you want a little more ability at distance, m855.
Depends on twist rate and barrel length.
1:9 or slower twist, with a 16+" barrel, m193, 1:8 or faster twist with a 20" or shorter barrel, m855.(or something else heavy like 62gr SPs, 77gr TMKs, etc, they will just be 2-5x the price per round)
M855a1 does seem to offer an advantage in performance.
Assuming the far left is 55gr, it's probably the worst performer of the bunch, not sure what the orange polytip is, but usually a varmint and/or lower pressure 223 shit.
Contrary to online gayots, M855 is decent.
Can be, especially when you have to get through tough shit like a hog shoulder, the sheet metal in a car door, or especially auto glass. For most people though, they'll be served fine with something that does 9-12" on FBI gelatin in through heavy clothing.
I know the FBI 12-18" is all the rage, but since Mexicans gonna Mexico, INS/NFU has prioritized rapid expansion at the cost of a little penetration for their guys. Pretty much any heavier expanding bullet, and technically any weight FMJ IF it flips early, meets those standards for then worst day of your life.

Is m855 or m193 better for a civilian
Get M855A1 if you can. If not, M193.
Get whatever is cheap and available. No one has ever been shot by an AR-15 and thought "thank God that was M855 instead od M193" before dying.
So what is better about the m855A1 other than better barrier penetration? Does it do better against armor?

steel core sorry*

Aren't both illegal
What ?
You should stop posting.
Not yet. I'm sure Darth Brandon -- or his handlers, at any rate -- will make it so as soon as they can.
anon thats a fricking green tip. (uranium round). nutt.
depends on the circumstances and your threshold of "difference".
one of them is sparkles
one of them goes through car doors
the other two cause autists to sperg on the internet.
Yeah. Some of those will go through some armor that others will not.

mk262mod1 is the pinnacle of 5.56x45mm
if you have to go after armored targets, the 855a1 is better
the TMK version they load is a straight upgrade from standard MK262 MOD 1
Probably the pretty green one
