Has anyone here worked with/in the Italian armed forces? (NATO exercises, served, contractor, others)
How are they? Is it well organized/equipped/trained/motivated?
Because as an Italian external observer it seems to me that its mostly composed of southerners going there just to have a state job, in a country that is geopolitically passive and politically against military action, and is in fact involved in almost no operations, and aside from the navy and air force it seems that their equipment is old and becoming outdated vand that makes me refrain from joining since it seems to just be a waste of time, am I correct or wrong in my assessment?
The last time Italy was a serious military power was WW1
Why
they’re currently in charge of NATO mission in Iraq and of a battlegroup in Hungary iirc
I worked with them in Herat about a decade ago. They were nice, but dumber than us. The highlight was standing watch with an alpini and we started play slap fighting and he accidentally pulled the pin from my grenade. Thankfully nobody saw us.
Can you tell more about your experience with them?
>he accidentally pulled the pin from my grenade
They are like the Mexicans in the US military but slightly more awake and motivated

Yes I forgot to remove from the buy sell thread
They're actually pretty competent and well trained compared to the shitshow that was their performance in World War II.

It has an extremely powerful air force and navy also decent special forces.
Everything else is shit
Why is everything else shit?
Why is the navy and air powerful?
because the army doesnt get as much funding as the other branches, and because in the event of a real war soviet invasion style, the army wouldnt do much since we are deep into europe, while the navy and air force are needed to control the mediterranean sea
actually the army is the branch that receives the second most fundings after carabinieri
then there's AF and lastly navy
>Why is the navy and air powerful?
A powerful navy is vital for the defense of Italy since there was a serious possibly of an Invasion of Southern Italy by sea, the air force is powerful because Italy is pacifist country who does not wish to go to war and the few it is dragged into one they give their opponent an hell of a bombing hoping that they will surrender quickly
>Why is everything else shit?
The rest of the army are just glorified police officers, seriously the people who join most military branches do so to eventually transition in the police
>Italian army
Better than vatnigg one for approximately for 2-3 generations.
heard from vets about the Italian's reputation.
if you aren't an officer, they don't think you're anything more than trash. multiple sergeants have been told to claim they're lieutenants in order for their experience to be acknowledged in general. they have absolutely no respect for their NCO's.
