is jag cool?

pretty much the subject. i am ending my 1st year of law school at a top 30 law school (not that great)
i am considering army jagc which doesnt look too bad and has a low service commitment (3 yr)
i met and spoke with multiple jag officers during my undergrad and they seemed to like it for a short time, but said as all things in the military the longer u r in the worse it is.
call me a zogbot but i want to serve in some way, i did 2 years of AROTC and it was okay (at an SMC ... i ended up transferring to a better school in anticipation of law school)
just wondering /k/ advice. thanks. 🙂

It's good on a resume esp if you are looking into govt jobs after your hitch, the clearance is also a huge plus, but it will not help your law career trajectory.
If you go career you will make an infestismal amount of the money you'd make in private, but at some point you will get opportunities to affect policy and actually makes changes to how things work and you can gun for diplomatic service opps after your 20 as well, more moneyprestige

No. 99% of your cases will be sexual assault or CP related charges. Most crimes are plea'd out on a Article 15. Any interesting or major cases will be handled by a dinosaur Colonel with 30+ years.

most of your cases will be SHARP or alcohol related
if you're fine with that then it's a good career option or springboard

It's boring and meaningless as shit but so is any kind of lawyering, so might as well. You'd get to shoot guns with free ammo a couple times a year and wear a veteran hat for the rest of your life despite being a desk jockey

You'll always be a fricking law nerd. People will salute you because they have to, but if you're not a prior service chaplain, JAG, or doctor people will know you're not a real soldier and so will you.

    It's a good gig though.

JAG exists to protect the Military's interests, not necessarily actually help people.

The actress herself is Persian. Apparently the wall doesn't exist over there, she's still hot at 60 or whatever.

No. JAG is gay because there are only 2 kinds of JAG officers: the ones who mindlessly rubber-stamp anything for the mission, and the ones who get in the way of real soldiers doing their jobs.
Become a civilian lawyer. At least that way maybe you'll end up doing something positive at one point.

    >whole bunch of non-attorneys offering their opinions.
Its awesome and the military justice part is a minority of what gets done. Most 27A's do what attorneys do - they advise senior officers and most senior officers are as reliant on their 27A's as Fortune 500 CEO's are reliant on their in-house counsel. So yeah, during Iraq jag's were making decisions like
    >are we allowed to drop a BLU-111/MK 82 on that house

You get attached at the brigade level and live in the brigade HQ (sometimes the Bn level if they are doing something weird, flying solo or whatever), and then there are JAG's in the HQ's all the way up to the Corp's level doing what you do but more importanter.

Absolute shitload of JAG's in procurement and development because contracts need to be read and written, also some civil litigation (defending the Army against lawsuits because there is a class action or something).

you absolutely do not want to become a jag.

go be a public defender for 2-3 years and then walk into a 6 figure job anywhere in your state.

    also, not weapons
