Define “strongest”. If we’re talking tank armour, then probably not. The type 90 weighs about 50 tons, and the type 10 around 40-44 tons depending on whether they apply it’s modular armour. Even accounting for their small dimensions, they’re quite light even compared to similar autoloader tank designs like the leclerc or K2. Unless it’s composite armour has been folded six gorrillion times, we can probably guesstimate that it’s not as heavily armoured as other (honorary) western designs. But their lighter weight is good for the mountainous terrain of Japan and easier on logistics.

Plane wise, the only domestic fighter in service is the F-2 - which is a slightly larger and unfavourably expensive derivative of the F-16. It can accommodate anti-ship missiles unlike other F-16 variants and had a AESA radar as far back as the 90s which was impressive for the time. It would be somewhat obsolete though compared to the newer F-16V (block 70, or whatever they’re on). The F-2 was done to kickstart domestic aviation production and was prohibitively expensive compared to just buying the original.

Do they even have a functioning mic? Last time I heard they're trying to purchase Patrias from abroad as there's no local company willing to build APCs at all.

Mitsubishi has been building APCs since the 60s anon.

        >Do they even have a functioning mic?
They do actually build quite a remarkable number of systems and vehicles domestically, even if sometimes they’re just derivatives of some American equipment. However, their major problem is their pacifist constitution makes it very difficult for them to export anything, which would help make up for the R&D costs of developing everything domestically and give them to make further investments in their arm’s production like worst Korea.

        >Last time I heard they're trying to purchase Patrias from abroad as there's no local company willing to build APCs at all.
I hadn’t heard about that, but wouldn’t entirely surprise me. Like everyone else in the developed world, they have to contend with inflation and declining purchasing power limiting their budget in real terms. Since they can’t fund anything through foreign sales, the prohibitive costs of doing all your own R&D will eventually start to catch up and buying off-the-shelf equipment from abroad becomes tempting,

They haven't decided on Patria yet because Mitsubishi can build potentially better vehicles on Type 16 chassis.

It's sad European countries of similar gdp can't field this much material in training exercises. Shame.

Ain’t no one got $5 trillion over here, and even if we did it would all go to welfare - either subsidies to Poland or gibs to “New Europeans “. That said though, the Poles are at least spending on large amounts of weapons, so maybe they can do this soon with Abrams/K2’s
