Is it pointless to buy NODS as a civilian if you have nowhere to actually go and train with them?

Is it pointless to buy NODS as a civilian if you have nowhere to actually go and train with them? I don’t live in a part of the country where I can just go innawoods at night and shoot shit

Well, yeah? If you're a citygay who can only use them a few times per year vs every night that diminishes the value a ton. I suppose you could get thermals though since those can be kinda fun or even useful in some work without going far.

Stop asking questions that you answered yourself just so you can cherry pick an answer that justifies you wasting a few thousand on NODs.

    >Is it pointless to buy NODS as a civilian
    No.
    >...if you have nowhere to go and train with them
Yes. Why the frick are you buying them, then?

You do actually have places to go and train with them, you're just making excuses. Even if there's no BLM land you can shoot on, you can still go rucking with them. Put in some effort.

it's pointless to buy nods or guns in general if you think it's going to save you in some SHTF situation

In a rural situation I actually think nods are one of the "better" "more practical" high price tag purchases to make, at least vs buying an equivalent amount of guns if you don't already have them. They're super fun to use in general all the time, you can explore the woods at night and see wildlife that'd normally run away and it's rad. You don't have to any sort of larp, they're just neat toys even for a noguns let alone a hasguns. FLIR can be genuinely handy, I've got one for work since it helps me find issues with stuff like electrical cables and water leaks in walls. SHTF le ebin boogies is fricking stupid but "can see at night, can see heat" is like, a legit super power. It's fun.

In a city though? Yeah what's the point?

Being able to get out of a city would be much easier and safer if you can travel at night without drawing attention.
Or you can start ambushing frickers in the dark if you're planning on joining some sort of insurgency.

              So explain the use case.
              >You're in a big city
              >Some short of shit happens and the power goes out
              >People are panicking, desparate
              >They're coming out of the buildings and looking around to see what's going on
              >Everyone has has flashlights and phone cameras
And somehow you're doing to sneak out through all this, solid-snake style, and nobody is going to notice your nerdgoggles while you pass just a few feet from their lights? How far do you expect to have to keep up this sneaky stealth act before you're out of the city and the video game lets you move on to the next level?

Nods is like what 3 grand for any decent entry level one? Well guess what a large portable generator and some work lights with a month's worth of fuel is about three grand

I mean, can you make it part of your life by going on a trip where you can hike in kit at least 4 times a year? If not, yeah it’s a waste of time. You don’t really need to practice shooting in them, it’s a lot easier than shooting without them, but you do need to practice moving and running around with them.

being able to see with night vision or thermal when the lights go out is a major safety factor. Remember during the BLM, LA, and NY riots most of the crime is at night. Lots of sneaking around in the dark. Night vision or thermal is a huge advantage just to be able to see no one is there, or someone is up to no good.

this. the key is mobility without giving away your position. I don't give a shit what the scenario is, if you need to move because things have gotten bad, it makes more sense to move under the cover of darkness.

did you know that you can use nightvision without having to shoot? just go to a park at night

  8. 4 months ago

Yes and no, I mean they're fun if you're wondering around out in the wilderness. If the tree tops obscure all light and you're drunka nd walking into a fricking pond you might as well just get drunk and do that shit for fun if you like to. I mean every time I've acted like an butthole and got frustrated when I can't see what I'm doing at night like I had nods and dead batteries and someones like well why didn't you use your nods? and I already tried. If you're in the middle of fricking no where and there is ambient light they're pretty okay if your mostly bunkered down and trying to make yourself feel good there aint nothing when you're looking around. I guess it's better than nothing but then you're always the biggest butthole in the world if you can't tear apart and replace an entire machine at night without doing it in b***h black without any ambient light using a monocle to someone signing your paper work.

    >Is it pointless to buy NODS as a civilian if you have nowhere to actually go and train with them?
No, it's pointless because you are not special forces and you are not going to be running and gunning in the dark like some homosexual larper. Spend your money on usable preps, like food, water, meds and ways to heat your home in the case of societal breakdown. Those will be infinitely more useful than some $10K night vision setup.

Nothing is gonna happen anyway so might as well buy nods because they’re fun

Probably true that nothing will happen but 3 major banks have come out and predicted roll black outs in major US cities this year thanks to Bidenomics. So food, water, and various sundries are probably not a bad idea.

You know what also lets you see in the dark and costs 3% of the price of a NOD setup? A flashlight

buy them for some funsies if you like the concept, but considering them some part of a serious self-defense plan or skillset is moronic

shooting with them is almost an ancillary use. just being able to navigate and move at night without lights is a fricking huge multiplier.
