Depends on how thick he is. Carve the thick, stab the stick.

      >Carve the thick, stab the stick
This is actually a very helpful mnemonic for killing with a knife.

if you wanted to end a life instantly, but you only had a knife to do the job, i guess you'd have to stab at the chest until they're on the ground or at least still enough to land an accurate insertion into the temple. a more reliable alternative would be to stab at the chest, then make two deep incisions to reach the exterior jugular veins. i'm not sure what you mean by carving. as in torture?

he means cut with the knife while it's inserted.
sounds pretty hard if it's in deep and you don't have momentum.

in that case, carving wouldn't make much of a difference, you either hit a vital organ or you didn't. if you just plunged deep into tissue and wiggled the knife around, it would simply open the cavity slightly more. the intent is to kill him, so why waste time when you could puncture multiple critical points. update us on your findings OP.

Assuming you can stab deep enough that taking the knife out is worse than leaving it in, I'd thinkg creating as many of those holes as possible would be the most effective

Pretty sure it is. 3.5 seconds is BS, though. I've seen a webm where it happens and the guy takes at least 10 seconds to drop. What makes it so dangerous is the lack of any way to clamp the artery via first aid methods.

I saw a video of some street fight in Australia, relatively large guy took a fairly shallow stab to the carotid, didn't realize what happened and was down within seconds, dead in about 30 seconds.

That's survivable if first aid arrives. This hockey player had both his carotid completely severed and jugular sliced. He lived because his manager was a Vietnam vet with medic training. The manager pinched his carotid shut and kneeled on his chest to make his heart slow down.

The Carotid artery is divided, there’s one on either side of the neck and you can survive pinching one shut, so you need to slice the whole neck for best results.

Most knife attacks involve the perp holding on to the victim with their non-dominant hand and them stabbing between 30 and 40 times on average.
A person isn't going to stop just because you poked them once or twice, even if it's already a fatal injury.
If you're talking about defensive knife use? Aim for the hands, forearms and face with wide, circular cuts, blade forward.
Offensive, give 'em the tried and true reverse grip, gross motor function monke smash like pic related

Not really a solid number of average stabs but . . .

      >Most commonly (71.1% of the time) aggressors will lead the attack with their empty hand, effectively shielding the knife.

      >Indeed, when aggressors lead with their free hand, 80% of the time they will also use it to latch on the victim.

      >Knife attacks are predominantly executed with quick, short, repetitive stabs at different angles (e.g. switching from low, upward, stabs to the chest, to high, downward, stabs to the neck).

      >Commonly, there will be a first wave of stabs during which the attacker, taking advantage of the surprise, will land between 5 and 10 stabs. Then, as the victim fights back trying to escape, the stabs will be spaced-out.

      >Although the average duration of a knife attack is 23 seconds, it is important to keep things in perspective.

      >In that short amount time, the average attacker will stab you at a rate of 5 to 7 times every 5 seconds!

I think it's safe to say that if someone's going to stab you, they're going to stab you a lot, and you're not going to see it coming.

                Okay, here's how this works.
You say "I disagree with you", and then you provide your counterargument, then I can critique your counterargument.
What you're doing right now is what we call an "Ad Hominem", which basically means that you're incapable of disputing my claim that an average knife attack involves between 30 and 40 stabs.
Please, tell me exactly how many stabs on average does a knife attack involve, and then we may continue this discussion in earnest.

Repeated stabs and slashes/rips to cause trauma. People stop moving when trauma prevents them either mechanical or nerve or they lose consciousness.

    Surface wounds do very little.

      Anonymous

You don't want people stopping moving. The blood loss would be low, you need them to squirm and stumble. As such, don't cut tendons or limb muscles. Makes a mess but this way any chance of rescuing the poor bastard is gone

Just stab away, anon! Pierce both lungs so they suffocate, stab their face to distract them, plunge dat knife right into their heart and twist the blade! Perform a 360 no-fap and put the blade deep in their lower abdomen a bunch of times, get their poopy and peepee all over their sliced-up intestines!

Smoke a wet cig beforehand - y'know, a cig full of PCP.

If you're stabbing a dude in the neck it's better to stab once and immediately slice downwards as the knife is in his neck. If you stab him, take it out, stab him, take it out stab him, it will take much longer even though it feels funner or instinctual. Whenever the pitbull attacked my dog and I had to stab it to death, my adrenaline took over and I kept repeatedly stabbing it in the side of the neck over and over by pure instinct. In hindsight, I should have stabbed it once in the neck and sliced it across.
