I could see an argument that there isn't any conflict Australia will realistically get into where the US won't do all the fighting for it, using the country as a big air base, so having US standardized equipment and logistics on hand will only make that easier and more effective.

Back in 2003 we roflstomped iraq in like 2 weeks. Then the resulting insurgency in the following decade afterwards killed 10x more men that we lost during the invasion in the first place.

Keep in mind that status quo ante bellum de jure with western security guarantees IS a Ukranian victory in every way except technicality. And getting any more than that is going to be extremely difficult for Russia, given how much they are struggling.
A war doesn't end when you capture all the territory and destroy all the military units, war isn't Starcraft. A war ends when the enemy says that it ends and no sooner than then.

If you think this isn't a straightforward proxy war, where Ukraine has no say in the course of this war, then you're the delusional one. The US can always say "well, we'll pay for your rebuilding efforts if you run the war the way we want" (which incidentally is something the US wants to do, because it removes dollars from the domestic US economy) and Ukraine will fall in line and fight the war the way the Americans tell them to.

Combined with all the sanctions that won't automagically lift when Russia decides they've done or had enough, Russia is going to be one step up from a pre-industrial agrarian economy.
