Especially since treaties that limit ballistic missile defense are still in effect, those that were enacted to prevent an arms race in defensive measures, since the Russians have so many warheads and delivery systems it would have been an exercise in futility anyway.

That was always the obvious flaw with MAD. It makes perfect sense within its own tight circle of logic, but the first time someone goes outside of that circle then the whole thing becomes null and void and you don't get another chance at getting it right.
More of a class revolt then military, and even then most of the military would side with the working class. I think people will get sick of the cost of living and constant flow of immigrants long before they want to put boots on the ground in Russia.
