Oh no, your suffering has only begun. You will look back on these days as the paradise, compared to whats coming.

No, you can do whatever you want. But it'll probably frick you up in the sense you will never retire. You might try getting one of the those civil service jobs which give a pension after 20 years

      Good idea, any recommendations?

No but why tho? You're old as frick and should be planning to retire off your successful current career, not having a midlife gaycrisis.

Pick something technical because manual labor is stupid when you're old and your age is about to brutally accelerate in ways you cannot imagine without experience. Money makes freedom usable.

Sparky, controls/mechatronics tech, machinist etc are trades you can easily do into the rest of your old age, and many machinists do it past retirement because its fun.

You good. There’s so many old fricks getting degrees and stuff these days. But you have to humble yourself and don’t be pissy when you’re at the same level as a 20 year old.

No not really. I know a bloke who does carpentry now, he started at 55.

He also cut his living wage by 2/3

Depending on the trade you pick, they get you cheap and treat you like a child for 3-5 years. I was self employed and obama care put me in the same situation. I’m almost done now and I can say it was worth it but goddamn I am ready to turn out and be an adult again. It’s especially painful when you’re in better work shape than everyone including the kids and you know you can plan and work more efficiently than your dumb frick foreman. 8hrs at a time anon.

No but people don’t usually want 40 year old helpers with no experience. It can be done but it will be a difficult experience. good luck and god speed anon

      >No but people don’t usually want 40 year old helpers with no experience.

Sometimes you find a 42 year old who is tired of 22 year olds who think fricking with their phone qualifies as work, and if you're a 40 year old who has taken reasonable care of your health and can still learn a new trick then you will be fine.

shit lad, im 36 and everyone think im a grampa for some reason

unless you were some total moron doing hard drugs for dacades or stuffing your self with food while sitting on a couch 24/7 you should have exactly the same physical abilities that you had in your 20 all the way in to your 40s and even 50s

True, until you start getting injured. All the little shit starts to add up even if you were relatively accident free up until your 40s

Wear PPE, lift properly, dont be a hero and know how to pace yourself. Stay hydrated and for the love of god, add streaching to your morning and nightly routine.

No. But if you go that direction be very careful in which trade you choose. What's your background.

Trade schools and apprentiships are HIGHLY competitive nowadays

Yes, too late. I'm 30. Larger midwestern city. I landed an apprenticeship in the second highest paying union in my area, still wasn't worth it really. The pay is ok, but is offset by paying for dues, travel, tools, and the things that come with the fast food lifestyle working 12 hour shifts. Wear on the vehicle. No time for basic life shit like laundry or grocery shopping. No opportunity for ever interacting with women or forming a serious relationship or friendship with anyone. Might be cool if you're 19 and already married, but joining the military would open more doors. Trade unions are singing their swan song

      >I landed an apprenticeship in the second highest paying union

Doing precisely WHAT? Some trades are comfy, some destructive. Some have career paths, other lead to living in a dumpster with other meth heads.

Techy trades good, muscle trades only good as stepping stone for the young.

      >but joining the military would open more doors
There are many ways to serve but PrepHole tending moronic favors Army. I favored a methodically planned sustainable career with lower odds of being destroyed physically in training (the US doesn't take enough combat casualties to matter much IRL).

Most important above everyfrickingthing is vesting a retirement. I would murder, rape and suck Satan's wiener for retirement were that necessary. Disregard yungmen for youth is blind and on PrepHole also autspergic. Get the fricking MONEY.

Being a cop in rural red state areas or other government jobs are also desirable. Working life ends swiftly so get money/ Anyone putting anything before financial security is insane.

        >Most important above everyfrickingthing is vesting a retirement
        why though
there's no guarantee you'll live long enough to retire
and even if you do, life sucks then (if you're too old to work, you're too old to enjoy life either)

Sure is a good idea if you're a cuck, military wives frick a different dude every other week

Depends on the trade, but unless you've already got a fat retirement account, and just want to try something new, probably.
    >minimum 2 years of schooling/trade school for any trade worth getting into
    >minimum 2-3 more years of actual job experience before you're actually able to work unsupervised unless you're able to pick shit up instantly and that's if there's not a mandatory apprenticeship period
    >tack on another 3-4 to actually know what the frick you're doing and be able to find not shit positions
    >this is assuming your job actually has you doing a variety of things and actually trains you instead of the same 3 tasks for 3 years
Realistically, you're going to be 50 by the time you're able to make real money.

Not at all also depends on what you plan on doing some may be a struggle on your health or easy to do but no one wants to bother.

I know some people who started in the trades at 40+ and they're fricking useless. Sorry but unless you learnt how to be efficient in your 20s it's not going to happen.

You will be expected to work like a young man. Its gonna humble you having a 23 yr old foreman telling you off or teaching you. The kids are getting their first taste of power. Id expect a pay cut to start and itll take a few years to jump up. Its rewarding work, youll stay in shape and learn lots but dont expect the young bucks to show you love or respect "cause youre an elder" None of what you did before your career change matters. You gotta earn the respect. Your maturity is an asset. You arnt some punk living with mommy earning beer money. The old guys will trust you faster but you gotta keep your mouth shut, and your eyes open. I left a 15 yr career as a chef where I was running a kitchen and had a team of cooks/servers and made the switch to industrial electrical. I made the switch at 31. Currently 34. Mid way done my apprenticeship. Making more now than I was as a chef after leveling up but it was a pay cut to start.
