Singapore is literally encircle Indonesia by being member of FPDA, your friend Australia currently got nuclear submarine, I think its fair for us to balance the power, we are the one who feel threatened. Any further US escalation, adding members to AUKUS, NATO expansion will be the signs.

why list both China and US/Australia as targets?

seems like a good way to get raped in the mouth and ass at the same time

Australia thought they could threaten RI by acquiring SSNs through AUKUS, and talk about acquisition of B-1/B-21 so they can relive glory days of threatening to bomb Jakarta with F-111. Now Indonesia has ability to strike Australian continent itself directly.

In a single pic, the real reason for AUKUS... to contain INDONESIA, not CHINA... it also massively expands the USA's presence in the Indian Ocean beyond Diego Garcia... but AUSTRALIA will disappear from the chart forever... soon to be past their use-by date as a G20 economy

Without western alliances, Indonesia can take over Australia easily. Indonesia is growing 2 times faster than australia, thats why its military ranking keeps increasing, and australia stays the same forever. australia is one of the reasons Indonesia stays neutral between western countries and russia+china.

without australia's presence, Indonesia will be ally of the west.

This projection ignores how fricked China is internally and how disorganized India is to reach and stay at the top. Pakistan literally had 1/3 of the country flooded and is facing a religious crisis because fundamentalists are moronic.

Brazil can't control its citizens from voting in someone non-moronic. Egypt is still having issues about its politics. Nigeria is going to get fricked by its neighbors causing instability.

AUKUS is last ditch effort to save the Anglo Saxon empire.

Today, it sees China as an enemy.

Tommorow, it will be India or Indonesia or any other emerging power.

If Australia keeps proceeding, maybe it is time for Indonesia to have its own nuclear subs, surely France, Russia or China can help them to procure some... Cheaper and faster.

Indonesians were actually insulted when AUKUS first came into being, since they weren't informed and they feared that the introduction of SSNs would jeopardise the stability of the region. And we know Jakarta wants to be seen as the 'leader' of Southeast Asia. So having a potential arms race involving nuclear assets on their home turf is beyond tolerable for Jakarta. The fact that Indonesia wasn't consulted on this, also means that Indonesia's national security wasn't treated as an equal in the equation, which could partly be explained why they were so pissed off and suspicious on the deal.

The AUKUS countries does not care about Indonesia's concerns. AUKUS is another military alliance without Indonesia. Indonesia do not want to be the battle field between the super powers. Unlike weak Filipino, Indonesia at least has right to show his concerns.

There's no way Indonesia will be happy with the AUKUS deal and it is easy to understand why.

Indonesia is a close neighbor of Australia, and an Australia armed with nuclear submarines will be regarded as a serious threat by Jakarta - no matter what Washington says or does.

In the grand scheme of things, I don't think this will change much but Indonesia is rightfully concerned that this might lead to an arms race, which can lead to destabilization in the region and even war, and Indonesia would be caught in the middle of it. Also this is a minor point but Indonesia might have felt a little bit slighted by this deal because the AUKUS is kind of sidestepping Indonesia and also ASEAN as a whole in something that will very much involve Indonesia and ASEAN.

The AUKUS countries does not care about Indonesia's concerns. AUKUS is another military alliance without Indonesia. Indonesia do not want to be the battle field between the super powers. Unlike weak Filipino, Indonesia at least has right to show his concerns.

the point is, Indonesia doesn't want anything to do with it and wants to stay neutral. Indonesia doesn't want to become the battleground for a war between superpowers.

Probably because the Flips announced new basing agreements with the US last month. Indonesians, much like Indians, see themselves as the natural leader of ASEAN and a neutral, non-aligned independent great power beholden to neither the US or Russia/China, and therefore any incursion into what they regard as their sphere of influence (maritime Southeast Asia) or their neighbors entering into a extraregional alliance (like AUKUS) that could alter the balance of power as a hostile act.

        Doesn't matter

The Philippines was already tied to the US way before Indonesia became independent.

The US-PH mutual defense treaty was ratified in like 1950, while Indonesia during this period was still at war with their colonial master.

ANZUS was like in 1951, Indonesia at this point were still in negotiations on how to kick their remaining ik ook whiteys out.
